{"id":124525,"date":"2023-04-12T09:01:32","date_gmt":"2023-04-12T08:01:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=124525"},"modified":"2023-04-11T14:20:35","modified_gmt":"2023-04-11T13:20:35","slug":"six-ai-robotics-startups-join-industrial-safetytech-regulatory-sandbox","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/digital-construction\/artificial-intelligence\/six-ai-robotics-startups-join-industrial-safetytech-regulatory-sandbox\/124525\/","title":{"rendered":"Six AI and robotics startups join industrial safetytech regulatory sandbox"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Six startups specialising in AI, robotics and other new technologies have been selected for the world\u2019s first regulatory sandbox for industrial safetytech<\/h2>\n<p>The new Industrial Safetytech Regulatory Sandbox, delivered by Discovering Safety, has gained six new members in various UK startups focusing on new and emerging technologies.<\/p>\n<p>FYLD, HAL Robotics, Oculo, Eave, Plinx and Machine Eye will join <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/three-major-infrastructure-companies-join-new-health-and-safety-regulatory-sandbox\/123204\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">seven major construction and infrastructure companies<\/a> \u2014 including Balfour Beatty, BAM Nuttall, Costain, Heathrow Airport and Laing O\u2019Rourke \u2014 in the industrial safetytech regulatory sandbox.<\/p>\n<h3>What is the Industrial Safetytech Regulatory Sandbox?<\/h3>\n<p>The sandbox is being delivered by Discovering Safety, a programme led by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Britain\u2019s health and safety regulator, and Safetytech Accelerator, a technology accelerator dedicated to advancing safetytech in industry.<\/p>\n<p>It aims to examine how regulation of industrial safetytech affects the development and adoption of potentially life-saving technologies, as well as how assessment and compliance activites can be more effective.<\/p>\n<h3>\u00a0Work with the startups and other confirmed partners will begin this month<\/h3>\n<p>The selected startups have developed market-ready products to support health and safety in construction, and represent a range of emerging technologies requiring regulatory consideration.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fyld.ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FYLD<\/a>\u00a0improves safety and productivity for workforces operating in hazardous environments with real-time, AI-powered video risk assessments and predictive analytics. The award-winning technology can identify hazards and risk factors present on site through AI analysis, and surface productivity blockers that are causing teams to face delays on site.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/plinx.io\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Plinx<\/a> has developed an intelligent safety system that improves site safety by controlling access to hazardous areas based on a worker\u2019s role and purpose. Plinx&#8217;s connected SmartSensors attach to safety helmets, machinery, and cones form physical and digital zones. The system tailors zones based on site rules, notifying workers and machine operators immediately if they are working in an area where they are authorized.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oculo.ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oculo<\/a> improves risk management and safety by using AI computer vision to provide an accurate, up-to-date view of construction sites. Oculo reduces manual data collection, enabling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/digital-construction\/construction-technology-news\/how-companies-can-benefit-from-api-technology\/120349\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">risks and safety issues to be identified and addressed faster<\/a> and more efficiently.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eave.io\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eave\u2019s<\/a> unique hearing protection system comprises its FocusLite smart ear defenders and Peak, a cloud-based risk monitoring and prevention platform. Eave customers equip their workforce with the FocusLite headsets, which gather data on construction site noise as well as the wearer\u2019s exposure rate, and feed it through to Peak, where the data is analysed by health and safety professionals and work-site managers, who use it to manage or eliminate noise-related risks.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/hal-robotics.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HAL Robotics<\/a> is a software company focusing on adaptive applications of robotics in manufacturing, construction, and creative industries. It specialises in the programming of complex toolpaths, such as those required in additive manufacturing, highly variable jobs for small batches and unique items, and applications which require adapting robot tasks from various software ecosystems.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.machine-eye.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Machine Eye<\/a>\u2019s intelligent safety platform helps businesses across construction and primary industries to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/digitising-health-and-safety-risk-management\/118911\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> manage and control the risk<\/a> associated with Mobile Machinery, through both real-time interventions and longer term analysis: helping to protect workers while monitoring and improving HSE compliance across their sites.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Bringing fresh perspectives into health and safety technology<\/h3>\n<p>Dr Helen Balmforth, head of data analytics at HSE and lead on Discovering Safety, comments: \u201cInnovation is key to advancing health and safety in all industries, including construction.
