{"id":129188,"date":"2023-06-30T11:07:59","date_gmt":"2023-06-30T10:07:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=129188"},"modified":"2023-06-30T11:07:59","modified_gmt":"2023-06-30T10:07:59","slug":"business-park-operator-fined-13k-after-construction-worker-falls-from-roof","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/business-park-operator-fined-13k-after-construction-worker-falls-from-roof\/129188\/","title":{"rendered":"Business park operator fined \u00a313k after construction worker falls from roof"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>A business park operator in Runcorn has been fined\u00a0\u00a313,000 after a construction worker falls from roof<\/h2>\n<p>The construction worker sustained life-threatening injuries, including a fractured skull and collapsed lung, as a result of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/company-fined-120000-after-workers-fatal-roof-fall\/121201\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fall from height.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The employee was conducting the repair when he tripped and fell through an unprotected skylight, landing on the ground more than 13 feet below.<\/p>\n<p>Work had not been properly planned, and risk factors had not been identified and managed.<\/p>\n<p>The company had been carrying out the work on the roof for almost three weeks, and no measures were taken to mitigate the dangers posed by the skylight panels.<\/p>\n<p>An investigation by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/work-at-height\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HSE<\/a> found that SOG Limited had failed to take appropriate precautions to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/construction-site-health-and-safety-standards\/128160\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> ensure the safety of workers<\/a> on the roof.
