Thames Water has awarded a North London water trunk main contract to Barhale as part of the AMP7 Conditional Allowance Trunk Main Schemes<\/h2>\n

The North London water trunk main contract will protect future water supply in the\u00a0Boroughs of Barnet and Enfield.<\/p>\n

Civil engineering and infrastructure specialists Barhale will replace over 2.3km of pipe along a new route, running north west from Pert Close, Barnet to the southern end of Cannon Hill, Enfield.<\/p>\n

The new pipeline will be laid through the Friern Barnet retail park, and within: Station Road; Inverforth Road; Upper Park Road; Palmers Road; Bowes Road; Brookdale; Arnos Park; and Arnos Grove.<\/p>\n

Sections of the route will be tunnelled beneath the A406 North Circular Road, the East Coast Main Line and Pymmes Brook, with the aim of eliminating disruption at these critical infrastructure crossings.<\/p>\n

The upgrades aim to modernise the North London water supply<\/h3>\n

Shafts will be excavated on either side of each tunnel section to serve as launch and reception chambers for the tunnelling works, which will make up 250 metres of the total length.<\/p>\n

Barhale will replace the existing 24\u201d steel pipe with a combination of ductile iron or steel and high-density polyethylene pipe laid using open cut trenches and micro-tunnelling.<\/p>\n

Thames Water has estimated that an extra 1bn litres of water will be needed<\/a> across London and the Thames Valley by 2075.<\/p>\n

Maximising value whilst minimising disruption<\/h3>\n

Shane Gorman, Barhale\u2019s water director \u2013 Southern Region, said: \u201cNow is this right time to upgrade this aging main pipe. Installing a new trunk main will ensure this section of the water network is in optimum condition for the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a significant mains upgrade programme in a busy part of London and we have worked closely with Thames Water<\/a> to ensure that the design maximises value while minimising potential disruption.\u201d<\/p>\n

The works are expected to be completed by December 2024.<\/p>\n
