{"id":132328,"date":"2023-09-11T14:45:25","date_gmt":"2023-09-11T13:45:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=132328"},"modified":"2023-09-11T14:45:25","modified_gmt":"2023-09-11T13:45:25","slug":"nbs-bcis-tackle-net-zero-with-new-specification-library","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/nbs-bcis-tackle-net-zero-with-new-specification-library\/132328\/","title":{"rendered":"NBS and BCIS team up to tackle net zero with new specification library"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>A new partnership will combine <a href=\"https:\/\/bcis.co.uk\/insights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BCIS<\/a> data sets into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenbs.com\/sustainable-futures-report-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBS<\/a>&#8216;s specification library, offering users greater insight into delivering net zero in their designs<\/h2>\n<p>Two leading specification and costing organisations are pooling their resources to create a new specification library incorporating cost, carbon, and lifecycle indicators.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership will integrate the robust data sets of BCIS with NBS&#8217;s specification writing platform Chorus, giving specifiers access to up to date information and insights.<\/p>\n<h3>Driving sustainable development- and staying on budget<\/h3>\n<p>The early-stage specification library will allow professionals to prepare specifications at the concept design stage, as well as pre-written clauses, drop-down values, and technical guidance.<\/p>\n<p>Offering a seamless user experience, the specification library will let users discuss and collaborate on sustainability discussions and decisions.<\/p>\n<p>Russell Haworth, NBS\u2019s CEO, says \u201cOur recent research at NBS has shown that specifiers are asking for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/understanding-your-buildings-energy-consumption-to-achieve-net-zero\/115994\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">better, more joined-up building information<\/a> to help them make informed sustainability decisions at the project outset.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the moment, there isn\u2019t one company in the industry that can provide designers and specifiers with the comprehensive information they need to build sustainably \u2013 that\u2019s why this partnership marks an important milestone, giving specifiers an additional level of insight that previously was just not available.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Cost considerations have been added, to help meet client demand<\/h3>\n<p>The partnership will also provide users with relative cost indicators from BCIS, allowing specifiers to understand the relative financial cost in addition to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/decarbonising-the-built-environment-by-addressing-whole-life-carbon\/130934\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">environmental cost impact of building elements<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Haworth continues, \u201cArchitects and other specifiers have also made it clear that they want indicators to help with decision-making on cost and the potential future upkeep of buildings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProviding cost and sustainability data will allow for better decisions and enhanced collaboration across the design team, ultimately providing the built environment with the tools to build more sustainability.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>The shared specification library will enable designers to make more sustainable choices<\/h3>\n<p>James Fiske, BCIS\u2019 CEO, adds \u201cWe know how critical decisions are at the start of a project in influencing lifetime cost and carbon emissions.
