Following recent government announcements, Go Geothermal commercial director Darran Burrage explains why there\u2019s never been a better time to buy heat pumps<\/h2>\n

From 23 October 2024, the grant for air and ground source heat pumps has been increased to \u00a37,500, making renewable energy heating solutions even more attainable for householders in the UK<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s a 50% boost to the money previously available through the Boiler Upgrade Grant to help people afford heat pumps and the announcement comes after a study revealed that in cold temperatures such pumps are more than twice as efficient as the fossil fuel systems they replace.<\/p>\n

Which is very timely as we head into winter. There are currently 60,000 domestic heat pumps installed a year in the UK with the government aiming to increase that tenfold by 2028.<\/p>\n

This grant, combined with the falling price of heat pumps, means we have now reached a tipping point where pumps are cheaper to buy and install than gas boilers.<\/p>\n

But even though the government\u2019s ban on oil and gas boilers has been moved from 2026 to 2035, there\u2019s no guarantee that the grant for heat pumps will always be available as we approach this deadline, so the time to start thinking about making the switch is now.<\/p>\n

Heat pumps are up to three times more efficient \"\"<\/h3>\n

Meanwhile, research by Oxford University and the Regulatory Assistance Project think tank has found that at temperatures below zero, heat pumps are up to three times more efficient<\/a> than oil and gas heating systems.<\/p>\n

Published in the energy research journal Joule, the study was carried out across North America, Europe and Asia and dispels any doubts that the devices don\u2019t work well in the sub-zero depths of winter.<\/p>\n

With household boilers amongst the biggest contributors to the UK\u2019s greenhouse gas emissions, the government has identified the switch to heat pumps as essential if the 2050 net zero targets are to be reached.<\/p>\n

And that\u2019s where Go Geothermal comes in.<\/p>\n

The option to do nothing is no longer an option<\/h3>\n

As the UK\u2019s largest supplier of heat pumps and associated components, we are ideally placed to meet the increased demand for heat pumps which is inevitable now the grant amount has been increased and people begin to realise the option to do nothing, is not an option at all.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s one of the reasons why we recently moved to a new head office and warehouse in the North-East of England, giving us the ability to increase our stock holding by three-and-a-half times<\/a> \u2013 equating to \u00a31.6m worth of renewable energy products, with space to grow to \u00a35m \u2013 and maximise distribution into Scotland as well as the rest of England and Wales. This is complemented by our existing commercial office in the Midlands and, as part of our growth, we are further strengthening our national sales team over next few months.<\/p>\n

We were established in 2006, long before renewable energy became topical, so no one understands heat pumps better than we do. Part of the Entertech Group, we offer a one-stop shop for ground and air source heat pumps made by the world\u2019s biggest manufacturers, such as Vaillant, Viessmann, Bosch, Waterkotte, and Clausius.<\/p>\n

Second to none heat pump technology and training<\/h3>\n
