{"id":135171,"date":"2023-11-28T14:59:37","date_gmt":"2023-11-28T14:59:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=135171"},"modified":"2023-11-28T14:59:37","modified_gmt":"2023-11-28T14:59:37","slug":"balfour-beatty-bags-norfolk-coastal-defence-schemes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/projects\/balfour-beatty-bags-norfolk-coastal-defence-schemes\/135171\/","title":{"rendered":"Balfour Beatty bags Norfolk coastal defence schemes\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The two coastal defence schemes, to be delivered by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.balfourbeatty.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Balfour Beatty<\/a> on behalf of North Norfolk District Council, have a combined value of \u00a319.5m<\/h2>\n<p>The Norfolk coastal defence schemes have been awarded through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/balfour-beatty-appointed-to-4bn-scape-civil-engineering-frameworks\/116048\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SCAPE Civil Engineering framework<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Cromer Phase 2 Scheme will see Balfour Beatty construct a new rock armour revetment on the Norfolk coast on the west of Cromer pier, with 38,000 tonnes of rock placed on the shoreline.<\/p>\n<p>In the Mundesley Coastal Management Scheme, Balfour Beatty will place 36,000 tonnes of rock on the shoreline, complete remedial works to the existing sea walls as well as refurbish the groynes \u2013 perpendicular structures to manage the flow of sediment.<\/p>\n<h3>Delivering safety, sustainability and social value<\/h3>\n<p>Upon completion, the schemes will protect 600 local homes and businesses in North Norfolk from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/climate-change-and-coastal-flood\/87401\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">flooding and coastal erosion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The schemes will employ a workforce of around 50, including 4 apprenticeship, graduate, and trainee positions.<\/p>\n<p>Balfour Beatty has also announced their intention to divert 95% of waste from landfill by recycling materials and donating excess timber to community projects and charities.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Robinson, SCAPE Group chief executive, said: \u201cProtecting our communities, homes and businesses from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/smart-technology-repurpose-legacy-drainage-assets-battle-against-flooding\/120972\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">flooding is critical<\/a>.
