{"id":138753,"date":"2024-04-15T12:43:05","date_gmt":"2024-04-15T11:43:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=138753"},"modified":"2024-05-24T14:20:49","modified_gmt":"2024-05-24T13:20:49","slug":"grenfell-fire-passes-with-report-still-pending","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/grenfell-fire-passes-with-report-still-pending\/138753\/","title":{"rendered":"Seventh anniversary of Grenfell fire will pass with second report still pending"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The team leading the Grenfell Tower Inquiry have confirmed that the report will not be published before the seventh anniversary of the fire<\/h2>\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.grenfelltowerinquiry.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Grenfell Tower Inquiry team<\/a> confirmed in an update published on 11th April that the final report would not be ready before the anniversary of the fire.<\/p>\n<p>On 14 June 2017, a fire broke out in the 24-storey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/time-for-change-will-the-grenfell-tower-fire-prove-constructions-piper-alpha-moment\/114004\/\">Grenfell Tower block of flats<\/a> in North Kensington, West London, claiming 72 lives and more than 70 injured.<\/p>\n<h3>The phase two report will look into the causes of the fire<\/h3>\n<p>The Grenfell Tower Inquiry was launched to investigate the industry and building safety failings which caused the fire to spread.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/grenfell-tower-inquiry-report\/66404\/\">first Grenfell Tower Inquiry report<\/a> was published in October 2019. This phase one report offered a comprehensive overview of the events that transpired in the early hours of 14 June 2017, along with the London Fire Brigade&#8217;s response to the fire.<\/p>\n<p>The phase two report will investigate the fire&#8217;s causes, with the inquiry having received 299,658 documents pertinent to the investigation.<\/p>\n<h3>The report is now reaching its final stages<\/h3>\n<p>The inquiry stated that although the report is now reaching its final stages, the team is not in&#8217; a position to publish the report before the next anniversary of the fire, as we had originally hoped&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>The cause for the delay was cited due to having to &#8216;write to about 250 people&#8217;; therefore, the process was &#8216;significantly larger and more complex&#8217; than originally expected.<\/p>\n<p>The Grenfell Tower Inquiry team said: &#8220;We remain determined to publish the report as soon as possible, and the whole Inquiry team is working as hard as it can to ensure that no time is lost.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When we have a better understanding of how much longer the rule 13 process is likely to take, we shall write again and, if possible,
