{"id":140350,"date":"2024-06-07T08:23:55","date_gmt":"2024-06-07T07:23:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=140350"},"modified":"2024-06-07T08:23:55","modified_gmt":"2024-06-07T07:23:55","slug":"new-riba-horizon-scans-architects-adapt-built-environment-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/new-riba-horizon-scans-architects-adapt-built-environment-changes\/140350\/","title":{"rendered":"RIBA horizon scans aid architects in adapting to built environment changes"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has published its latest set of horizon scans that highlight how global population change will shape the built environment over the next ten years<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.architecture.com\/digital-practice-tools\/RIBA-Horizons-2034\/Population-change\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RIBA Horizons 2034: Population Change<\/a> includes four horizon scans that consider how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/architects-expect-workload-staffing-levels-fall-says-riba\/136468\/\">architects<\/a> will need to respond to shifting patterns in births, deaths, and migration.<\/p>\n<p>These changes are reshaping communities and are caused by increasing ageing populations, swelling cities, and more people on the move than ever.<\/p>\n<p>The new paper is part of the RIBA Horizons 2034 series which is examining the global megatrends predicted to shape society and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/tag\/built-environment\/\">built environment<\/a> by 2034.<\/p>\n<h3>What are the four horizon scans?<\/h3>\n<p>Written by leading academics and experts, the four horizon scans are commissioned by RIBA to provide foresight for building design professionals.<\/p>\n<p>The scans are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Urbanisation:<\/strong> the coming decade will be make or break for cities and the planet<\/li>\n<li><strong>Demographics:<\/strong> slowing population growth, changing families and an ageing population<\/li>\n<li><strong>International migration and displacement:<\/strong> the impact on the urban landscape<\/li>\n<li><strong>Designing for an increasingly diverse population:<\/strong> the implications of the ethnic diversification and age polarisation of Britain\u2019s neighbourhoods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>They also show how households and neighbourhoods are set to change.
