{"id":143934,"date":"2024-09-23T13:48:38","date_gmt":"2024-09-23T12:48:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=143934"},"modified":"2024-09-23T13:48:38","modified_gmt":"2024-09-23T12:48:38","slug":"rics-launches-new-infrastructure-policy-paper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/rics-launches-new-infrastructure-policy-paper\/143934\/","title":{"rendered":"RICS launches new Infrastructure Policy Paper"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rics.org\/about-rics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors<\/a> (RICS) have released an infrastructure policy paper alongside their latest compulsory purchase order guidance<\/h2>\n<p>RICS have launched a new Infrastructure Policy Paper, to be briefed at the Labour party conference.<\/p>\n<p>The paper comes alongside the latest edition of their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/councils-given-powers-compulsory-purchase-orders-affordable-homes\/140598\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">compulsory purchase order<\/a> (CPO), titled &#8216;<em>Surveyors advising in respect of compulsory purchase and statutory compensation 2nd edition&#8217;.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>The CPO guidance lays out expectations of RICS members<\/h3>\n<p>The CPO guidance consists of a set of 21 professional behaviour and competence expectations that RICS members must adhere to.<\/p>\n<p>This is an expansion and revision on the initial edition of the CPO guidance, originally published in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Amongst other changes, the link between this area of practice and the need for all those undertaking any valuation-related work to adhere to RICS valuation standards has been clarified, known as the Red Book.<\/p>\n<h3>The Infrastructure Policy Paper advises on an infrastructure strategy<\/h3>\n<p>The Infrastructure Policy Paper is to be presented this week at the Labour Party Conference, as well as for the Conservative Party Conference the following week.<\/p>\n<p>The paper&#8217;s key focus areas include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Decarbonising the electricity grid and investing in net-zero generating capacity,<br \/>\nincluding renewables like wind, solar, and nuclear, as well as upgrades to the energy<br \/>\ndistribution infrastructure<\/li>\n<li>Implementing New Town Developments, to address the UK\u2019s housing shortage which<br \/>\nwill be designed with sustainability and modern infrastructure in mind. These<br \/>\ndevelopments will also include essential infrastructure, such as healthcare facilities, and<br \/>\npublic transport links<\/li>\n<li>Delivering major rail and road infrastructure projects to improve connectivity across the<br \/>\nUK<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>RICS president-elect, Justin Sullivan, said: &#8220;I look forward to leading the roundtable session, briefing key members of the government\u2019s policy team on our infrastructure paper at the coming Labour Party Conference.
