{"id":144100,"date":"2024-09-27T11:15:55","date_gmt":"2024-09-27T10:15:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=144100"},"modified":"2024-09-27T11:15:55","modified_gmt":"2024-09-27T10:15:55","slug":"nature-protection-ai-tool-launched","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/nature-protection-ai-tool-launched\/144100\/","title":{"rendered":"Nature protection AI tool launched"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>A nature protection AI tool has been launched by The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sustainable-markets.org\/terra-carta-impact-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sustainable Markets Initiative<\/a> and AECOM, to protect nature during infrastructure development<\/h2>\n<p>The Sustainable Markets Initiative and AECOM have launched a new nature protection AI tool.<\/p>\n<p>The tool is intended to protect nature and promote sustainable development of infrastructure.<\/p>\n<h3>The nature protection AI tool can analyse any piece of land<\/h3>\n<p>The nature protected AI tool, named the Nature Risk Tool, analyses pieces of land, providing insight into the natural features there.<\/p>\n<p>These features include habitats and biomes, and will help planners and policymakers to create sustainable infrastructure while protecting the environment as well.<\/p>\n<p>The development of the AI comes at a time where infrastructure development generally means the damaging or destruction of nature in some way, including habitat loss, biodiversity decline, pollution, and increased greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n<h3>Some features of the nature protection AI tool include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>SMI Nature Risk Tool uses data and AI to inform infrastructure projects, promoting sustainable development and environmental protection.<\/li>\n<li>Can analyse land anywhere in the world, offering expert-reviewed descriptions of habitats and biomes.<\/li>\n<li>Identifies protected species early in the site selection phase, allowing for protective measures to be integrated into development plans.<\/li>\n<li>Successfully trialled by organisations including the World Bank, BP, KPMG, WWF, Barclays, HSBC, and the Blue Dot Network.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Nature is important to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/caldera-develops-megacell-to-aid-switch-solar\/144041\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sustainability<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Jennifer Jordan Saifi, CEO of the Sustainable Markets Initiative, said:\u00a0&#8220;Nature is the engine of our economy, which is why it lies at the heart of our mandate, the Terra Carta.
