{"id":144564,"date":"2024-10-14T10:58:38","date_gmt":"2024-10-14T09:58:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=144564"},"modified":"2024-10-14T10:58:38","modified_gmt":"2024-10-14T09:58:38","slug":"cif-construction-safety-campaign-launches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/cif-construction-safety-campaign-launches\/144564\/","title":{"rendered":"CIF construction safety campaign launches"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The CIF construction safety campaign launches today, running health and safety events up to 25 October<\/h2>\n<p>Today marks the launch of the CIF construction safety campaign 2024, a two-week campaign promoting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/safer-lone-working-better-inclusion-topics-tackled-health-and-safety-event\/139623\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">health and safety in construction<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Due to its success, the theme has remained the same as last year&#8217;s campaign: Focus on critical risk.<\/p>\n<h3>The efforts also support the Irish Heart Foundation<\/h3>\n<p>The campaign will also raise awareness for the Irish Heart Foundation (IHF), through spreading knowledge of CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation).<\/p>\n<p>Being trained in CPR adequately can increase the chance that a person will respond well to an emergency by 10 times.<\/p>\n<p>As such, the first week of the campaign starting today is &#8216;Restart a Heart&#8217; week. This will not only see encouragement for CPR training, but also for heart health in general. This will be undertaken in conjunction with the IHF&#8217;s Hands for Life initiative.<\/p>\n<p>The CIF construction safety campaign will also address essential questions for critical risks, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Do you know your critical risks?<\/li>\n<li>Have you controls in place to manage these risks?<\/li>\n<li>Are your colleagues aware of these risks?<\/li>\n<li>Are the controls in place to protect safety adequate?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The CIF construction safety campaign will hold &#8216;toolbox talks&#8217;<\/h3>\n<p>Sean Downey, director of safety and training at the Construction Industry Federation, said: &#8220;There&#8217;s nothing more important than protecting the health of those who work on our sites and projects.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Critical Risks are activities undertaken frequently that, if not controlled, could lead to significant injury or fatality.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On-site risks include working at heights, operating heavy machinery and electrical work, alongside mental health and physical health.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This year we have teamed up with the Irish Heart Foundation to promote heart health awareness at home and on-site.
