{"id":144924,"date":"2024-10-23T11:40:38","date_gmt":"2024-10-23T10:40:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=144924"},"modified":"2024-10-23T11:40:38","modified_gmt":"2024-10-23T10:40:38","slug":"bcsa-publishes-light-gauge-steelwork-specification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/mmc-news\/bcsa-publishes-light-gauge-steelwork-specification\/144924\/","title":{"rendered":"BCSA publishes light-gauge steelwork specification"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The British Constructional Steelwork Association has published a light-gauge steelwork specification to promote light steel usage<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/bcsa.org.uk\/resources\/fabrication-technical-design\/nlss\/#:~:text=Building%20on%20this%20wider%20context%2C%20the%20BCSA%20has,high%20standards%20in%20all%20areas%20of%20its%20operations.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">light-gauge steelwork specification<\/a> is for use in construction contracts and allowing contractors, designers, manufacturers, and clients confidence in steelwork standards.<\/p>\n<p>It contains information to ensure light-gauge steel is created, utilised, and maintained to the highest possible standard.<\/p>\n<h3>The light-gauge steelwork specification covers the whole life of steel<\/h3>\n<p>The information covered in the NLSS includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Materials used<\/li>\n<li>Transfer of design information<\/li>\n<li>Manufacture<\/li>\n<li>Assembly<\/li>\n<li>Installation<\/li>\n<li>Requirements for protective treatment<\/li>\n<li>Quality management<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This information can be used to harmonise approach with the terms used in the steel industry, improve transparency, reduce risk, as well as improve communication and quality standards.<\/p>\n<h3>The specification is currently voluntary<\/h3>\n<p>The NLSS is receiving strong support by all relevant key trade associations, and so it is expected that voluntary adoption will see widespread use as part of the project specification and thus the building contract.<\/p>\n<p>BCSA chief executive Jonathan Clemens said: &#8220;Light-gauge steel frame structures use galvanized cold-formed steel sections as the primary structural components which can be assembled into prefabricated panels.
