{"id":14958,"date":"2015-03-02T08:51:12","date_gmt":"2015-03-02T08:51:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.adjacentgovernment.co.uk\/?p=14958"},"modified":"2016-10-25T10:39:06","modified_gmt":"2016-10-25T10:39:06","slug":"60m-extra-funding-laing-orourke-hospital-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/60m-extra-funding-laing-orourke-hospital-project\/14958\/","title":{"rendered":"Extra funding for Laing O&#8217;Rourke hospital project"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The government has agreed to put up an extra \u00a360m funding to enable the redevelopment of the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton to get under way<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.laingorourke.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Laing O&#8217;Rourke<\/a>, the main contractor on the scheme, expects work to start on the project this year after the government agreed to an extra \u00a360m funding.<\/p>\n<p>Preparatory works on the redevelopment of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bsuh.nhs.uk\/hospitals\/our-hospitals\/royal-sussex-county-hospital\/\" target=\"_blank\">Royal Sussex County Hospital<\/a> in Brighton were completed in the autumn of last year. However, soaring costs put the project on hold.<\/p>\n<p>A total of \u00a3420m had already been committed to the project by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/hm-treasury\" target=\"_blank\">Treasury<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/department-of-health\" target=\"_blank\">Department of Health<\/a> last year. However, the cost of the project has now increased by \u00a360m to \u00a3480m since the original budget was decided in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Health secretary Jeremy Hunt said: \u201cThis government is a huge supporter of this hospital. It\u2019s a hospital that has needed a big new development for very, very many years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe costs have gone up since then because of inflation and I can today announce that we will be putting aside an extra \u00a360m to deal with those additional inflationary costs so that the project can go ahead.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere still got to be a final business case that\u2019s got to be approved and we&#8217;ve got to go through the normal processes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut the extra money that we are announcing today was the big block because costs have gone up since last year.
