{"id":150090,"date":"2025-04-04T13:30:22","date_gmt":"2025-04-04T12:30:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=150090"},"modified":"2025-04-04T13:30:41","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T12:30:41","slug":"london-luton-airport-expansion-granted-consent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/projects\/london-luton-airport-expansion-granted-consent\/150090\/","title":{"rendered":"London Luton airport expansion granted consent"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The secretary of state for transport has announced that the airport will be allowed to expand<\/h2>\n<p>Yesterday it was confirmed that the application for a London Luton airport expansion is being allowed to go ahead.<\/p>\n<p>The expansion will eventually raise the number of passengers per year from 18m to 32m.<\/p>\n<h3>The London Luton airport expansion will feature many new buildings<\/h3>\n<p>The expansion will see new terminal capacity, new taxiways and transport infrastructure, landside support buildings, surface access adjustments, mitigation work, and more.<\/p>\n<p>The planning application as originally sent to the Planning Inspectorate on 27 February 2023, accepted for examination on 27 March 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The examination saw consultees and interested parties giving evidence to the Examining Authority, and recommendations were made to the secretary of state on 10 May 2024.<\/p>\n<p>This marks the 57th transport application examined out of 152, and shows that local communities are prioritised and allowed to be involved in the examination of projects that may affect them. <a href=\"https:\/\/infrastructure.planninginspectorate.gov.uk\/wp-content\/ipc\/uploads\/projects\/TR020001\/TR020001-003765-EU%20598%20Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Considerations were given to everything from air noise to the impact on the local environment.<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>\u201cA decision in favour of growth\u201d<\/h3>\n<p>The Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/ceca-publish-recommendations-new-uk-government-deliver-critical-infrastructure\/141322\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously called upon the government to make decisions on<\/a>, and promote delivery of, critical infrastructure.
