{"id":150498,"date":"2025-04-23T09:39:21","date_gmt":"2025-04-23T08:39:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=150498"},"modified":"2025-04-23T10:46:18","modified_gmt":"2025-04-23T09:46:18","slug":"new-agreement-that-helps-eligible-architects-register-between-uk-and-canada-signed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/new-agreement-that-helps-eligible-architects-register-between-uk-and-canada-signed\/150498\/","title":{"rendered":"New agreement that helps eligible architects register between UK and Canada signed"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>A new UK-Canada mutual recognition agreement (MRA) will be signed today between the UK\u2019s Architects Registration Board (ARB) and Canada\u2019s Regulatory Organizations of Architecture in Canada \/ Regroupement des Ordres d\u2019Architectes du Canada (ROAC)<\/h2>\n<p>From 14 May 2025, eligible architects who are registered in the UK or Canada will be able to benefit from a streamlined and quicker process to practise their profession in the two countries, creating exciting new opportunities across the Atlantic.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement recognises the high and equivalent competency standards of both countries, and the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/arb-overhauls-registration-international-architects\/144236\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> importance of qualified professionals<\/a> in order to help protect the public.<\/p>\n<p>In both the UK and Canada, an architect must be registered with the relevant professional regulator to practise architecture in the jurisdiction and use the legally protected title. Registration exists to ensure anyone calling themselves an architect has the appropriate skills, knowledge and experience, while meeting the required standards of conduct and practice.<\/p>\n<h3>&#8220;Paving the way for a new generation of British architects&#8221; on the global stage<\/h3>\n<p>Alan Kershaw, chair of the <a href=\"https:\/\/arb.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Architects Registration Board<\/a>, said: \u201cThe agreement opens significant new opportunities for architects in the UK and Canada to collaborate, building on the strong professional partnerships that already exist between the two countries. It will at the same time maintain the high standards the public have a right to expect.
