{"id":151085,"date":"2025-05-12T14:38:34","date_gmt":"2025-05-12T13:38:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=151085"},"modified":"2025-05-12T14:38:34","modified_gmt":"2025-05-12T13:38:34","slug":"design-team-chosen-york-central-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/projects\/design-team-chosen-york-central-scheme\/151085\/","title":{"rendered":"Design team chosen for York Central scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The scheme is worth \u00a32.5bn, and several architects and designers have been chosen for the team<\/h2>\n<p>McLaren Property and Arlington Real Estate are leading the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorkcentral.info\/about-york-central\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">York Central scheme.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Allies and Morrison have also been chosen as the lead master planner on the scheme, as well as Grant Associates.<\/p>\n<h3>The York Central scheme will span 45 hectares<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/network-rail-to-form-property-company-to-deliver-land-for-40000-homes\/149817\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Homes England and Network Rail<\/a> are providing funding for the scheme, which will include 2,500 new homes, around 1m sq ft of office, retail and hospitality space, including a 200 bed contemporary hotel, and will see upgrades to York Railway Station and the National Railway Museum.<\/p>\n<p>Grant Associates will head the parkland, public realm and future coal drops area while Allies and Morrison will head the design for the scheme and a new Innovation Hub.<\/p>\n<p>The design team also includes Sheppard Robson, leading the design of the 195,000 sq ft Government hub for 2,600 civil servants, Cartwright Pickard and Corstorphine &amp; Wright, working on the residential and build-to-rent factors, Haworth Tompkins, leading affordable housing, 3D Reid, leading the hotel and western station entrance, and re-form, working on the Museum Square and first-phase public realm.<\/p>\n<p>The site has already started undergoing preparatory works.<\/p>\n<h3>\u201cA remarkable brownfield site\u201d<\/h3>\n<p>Allies and Morrison have previously worked on the regeneration of London\u2019s King\u2019s Cross, BBC Media Village, and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.<\/p>\n<p>Tom Gilman, managing director of McLaren Regeneration, said: \u201cFollowing a comprehensive competitive process that included both local and international firms, we have carefully selected some of the world\u2019s leading architects and design specialists to work with us and bring our ambitious vision for York Central to life. Key to our decision making was ensuring they all had a proven track record in delivering and working on large scale regeneration schemes, as well as demonstrable experience, knowledge and understanding of York and the surrounding area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, we are excited to get to work on our plans, with an outstanding architectural team, our partners and the local community, to deliver what will be a vibrant, highly sustainable place, with expansive green space, and public realm, new homes and a major new employment hub for northern England.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jason Syrett, partner of Allies and Morrison, said: \u201cWe are delighted to be working with McLaren Property, Arlington Real Estate and the rest of the project team in shaping and delivering York Central.
