Change delivered.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Rachel Reeves (@RachelReevesMP) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RachelReevesMP\/status\/1930152786781409421?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 4, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>The news was welcomed by Tracey Brabin, mayor of West Yorkshire; Steve Rotheram, mayor of Liverpool and Greater Manchester&#8217;s Andy Burnham, amongst others.<\/p>\n<p>The chancellor also announced she would hold a regional investment summit later in the year with regional mayors to discuss next steps.<\/p>\n<p>The speech appeared to be rallying and reiterating Labour&#8217;s economic achievements in the face of growing discontent amongst voters, with Reeves pointing to the deal<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/uk-to-avoid-us-steel-tariffs\/151969\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> exempting the UK from hefty tariffs on steel<\/a> in the US and emphasising the Government&#8217;s commitment to reducing child poverty.<\/p>\n<p>Reeves was also asked by a reporter about plans for a new rail link between Manchester and Liverpool, a project which has been bouncing around since the previous government <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/industry-reacts-to-confirmed-axing-of-hs2-manchester\/133197\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cancelled the Manchester leg of HS2<\/a> in 2023.
