{"id":152666,"date":"2025-07-01T11:59:55","date_gmt":"2025-07-01T10:59:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=152666"},"modified":"2025-07-01T11:59:55","modified_gmt":"2025-07-01T10:59:55","slug":"homes-england-housebuilding-stats-show-modest-rise-homes-built","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/homes-england-housebuilding-stats-show-modest-rise-homes-built\/152666\/","title":{"rendered":"Homes England housebuilding stats show modest rise in homes built"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Homes England&#8217;s latest statistics from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025 show a 12% rise in completions year-on-year<\/h2>\n<p>38,308 new houses saw starts on site, with 36,872 homes completed, according to the Homes England housebuilding stats.<\/p>\n<p>The figures cover homes delivered under Homes England programmes, representing an increase of 12% in starts on site, and 5% in completions from the same period last year.<\/p>\n<h3>A majority of the homes are affordable homes<\/h3>\n<p>Of the 38,000+ homes started in the period, 30,087 of them are affordable homes, accounting for 79% of all starts in this period and a 0.6% increase from the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, of these affordable homes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>5,680 were for social rent (a 43% increase)<\/li>\n<li>2,800 were for intermediate affordable housing schemes such as shared ownership and rent to buy (a 27% decrease)<\/li>\n<li>2,665 were for affordable rent (an 18% decrease)<\/li>\n<li>Tenure is still awaiting confirmation for 18,942 (a 1% increase)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Affordable Homes Programme 2021-2026 delivered 96% of these homes, an increase from last year\u2019s 74%. This jump is due to the Shared Ownership and Affordable Housing Programme (SOAHP) 2016-2021 closing to new business and delivering its final housing starts in March 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The now-defunct SOAHP delivered 136,169 affordable starts on site, surpassing its original target of 130,000, with the last delivery of completions expected in March 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Of the completions, 28,370 were affordable homes, an increase of 15% for this year and accounting for 77% of all completions. This increase is attributed to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/affordable-homes-programme-2021-to-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Affordable Homes Programme 2021-2026.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This 28,370 encompasses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>10,755 for affordable rent (an increase of 15%)<\/li>\n<li>11,883 for the Intermediate Affordable Housing Schemes (an increase of 13%)<\/li>\n<li>5,732 for social rent (an increase of 33%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Several Homes England acquisitions are in the works<\/h3>\n<p>Most recently, in June, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/projects\/homes-england-acquires-ripon-barracks-for-1300-new-homes\/152327\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Homes England acquired Ripon Barracks<\/a>, which is expected to deliver 1,300 homes.<\/p>\n<p>This land, a former military site, was acquired via the Public Land Taskforce.
