{"id":152826,"date":"2025-07-09T10:38:57","date_gmt":"2025-07-09T09:38:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=152826"},"modified":"2025-07-09T10:38:57","modified_gmt":"2025-07-09T09:38:57","slug":"seven-house-builders-offer-100m-cma-drop-probe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/seven-house-builders-offer-100m-cma-drop-probe\/152826\/","title":{"rendered":"Seven house builders offer \u00a3100m to CMA to drop probe"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Barratt Redrow, Bellway, Berkeley Group, Bloor Homes, Persimmon, Taylor Wimpey and Vistry have offered to pay a total of \u00a3100m towards affordable housing programmes to wind up a Competition and Markets Authority(CMA) probe<\/h2>\n<p>The CMA launched the probe in February 2024 after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/cma-cases\/housebuilding-market-study\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report on the state on UK housebuilding<\/a>, which revealed potential competition violations between seven of the biggest housebuilding businesses in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Barratt Redrow, Bellway, Berkeley Group, Bloor Homes, Persimmon, Taylor Wimpey and Vistry were accused of sharing details such as pricing, number of property viewings and incentives offered to buyers, which they have all denied.<\/p>\n<p>The \u00a3100m payment will be split across affordable housing programmes in all member countries of the UK. Barratt Redrow, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/barratt-redrow-2-5bn-merger-complete-this-week-despite-cma-concerns\/143018\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">combined Barratt and Redrow<\/a> over the course of the investigation, will contribute \u00a329m.<\/p>\n<h3>The CMA will consult on the offer until 24th July 2025<\/h3>\n<p>Sarah Cardell, chief executive at the CMA, said: \u201cHousing is a critical sector for the UK economy and housing costs are a substantial part of people\u2019s monthly spend, so it\u2019s essential that competition works well.
