{"id":153454,"date":"2025-07-25T13:53:08","date_gmt":"2025-07-25T12:53:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=153454"},"modified":"2025-07-25T13:53:08","modified_gmt":"2025-07-25T12:53:08","slug":"scottish-transport-investment-worth-66m-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/scottish-transport-investment-worth-66m-announced\/153454\/","title":{"rendered":"Scottish transport investment worth \u00a366m announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Chancellor of the exchequer, Rachel Reeves, has today announced an investment worth millions of pounds into West of Scotland transport links<\/h2>\n<p>The investment will fund three Scottish transport schemes as well as create new direct links between towns and economic hubs.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a338.7m is\u00a0<span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">being allocated to Renfrewshire Council to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitscotland.com\/info\/towns-villages\/paisley-p237371\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fund links between Paisley town centre<\/a> and Glasgow Airport, as well as<\/span>\u00a0the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland (AMIDS), including walking, cycling, bus, and car routes.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a323.7m will be allocated to North Ayrshire Council to support the upgrade of the B714 route, facilitating easier journeys between Ardrossan, Saltcoats, and Stevenston and Glasgow. The upgrade will also reduce traffic in Kilwinning.<\/p>\n<p>A further \u00a33.45m top-up, in addition to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/autumn-budget-2024-a-shot-in-the-arm-the-housebuilding-industry-needs\/146134\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a35m already\u00a0<\/a><span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/autumn-budget-2024-a-shot-in-the-arm-the-housebuilding-industry-needs\/146134\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">allocated during the Autumn budget<\/a>, is being allocated towards potential upgrades to the A75 between Dumfries and Galloway, as it has links to the Cairnryan port,<\/span>\u00a0a vital link between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK.<\/p>\n<h3>Improving infrastructure and driving economic growth in Scotland<\/h3>\n<p>Chancellor of the exchequer, Rachel Reeves, said: \u201cWe\u2019re pledging billions to back Scottish jobs, industry and renewal &#8211; that\u2019s why we\u2019re investing in the major transport projects, including exploring upgrades to the A75, that local communities have been calling for.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhilst previous governments oversaw over a decade of decline of our transport infrastructure, we\u2019re investing in Britain\u2019s renewal. This \u00a366 million investment is exactly what our Plan for Change is about, investing in what matters to you in the places that you live.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scotland Secretary, Ian Murray, said: \u201cThis \u00a366 million investment in Scotland\u2019s roads demonstrates the UK Government\u2019s commitment to improving infrastructure and driving economic growth in all parts of the UK as part of our Plan for Change. This investment will make a real difference to people\u2019s daily lives and to the local economies of the South of Scotland, Ayrshire and Renfrewshire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew road links will connect Paisley town centre with Glasgow Airport and the new advanced manufacturing innovation district, to boost high value manufacturing in Renfrewshire. The upgrade to the B714 will speed up journeys between Glasgow and the three towns of Ardrossan, Saltcoats and Stevenston, as well as cutting traffic in Kilwinning. And the A75 is strategically important just not within but beyond Scotland. Its upgrading is long overdue.
