{"id":153945,"date":"2025-08-08T08:30:17","date_gmt":"2025-08-08T07:30:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=153945"},"modified":"2025-08-07T15:47:37","modified_gmt":"2025-08-07T14:47:37","slug":"construction-firms-invest-ai-most-still-entry-level","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/digital-construction-news\/construction-technology-news\/construction-firms-invest-ai-most-still-entry-level\/153945\/","title":{"rendered":"Construction firms invest in AI &#8211; but most still at \u201centry level\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Construction companies are investing in AI, cybersecurity and cloud platforms, but most are still in the early stages of their digital transformation journey, according to a new survey<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">The 2025\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wipfli.com\/insights\/research\/cns-tc-state-of-the-construction-industry-2025-research-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">State of Technology in Construction<\/a> report found that 82% of respondents said their organisation has an AI strategy, but most are still at the \u201centry level\u201d, using AI in limited ways rather than integrating it into strategic decision-making.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Similarly, almost three-quarters (73%) plan to invest in cybersecurity in the coming year, yet 80% of executives said their firm had experienced a data breach in the past 12 months.<\/p>\n<h3>\u2018Bright spots\u2019 in construction tech adoption<\/h3>\n<p>Wipfli said the survey highlighted several bright spots in tech adoption among construction firms.<\/p>\n<p>For example, two-thirds (66%) of the smallest firms now have an AI strategy.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, 43% of firms reported full integration with advanced technologies.<\/p>\n<p>One-third of firms have also achieved real-time, automated decision-making. Wipfli said this marks a \u201ccritical step\u201d in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/digital-construction-news\/artificial-intelligence-construction-industry\/134721\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unlocking AI\u2019s predictive power.<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Larger firms leading the way \u2013 but still work to do<\/h3>\n<p>The survey found that larger firms are leading the way in data analytics and cybersecurity \u2013 but even among companies with annual revenues above $250m, 12% still rely mostly on manual reporting.<\/p>\n<p>Among these large firms, almost half (47%) said real-time insights drive automated decisions, compared with just 17% of firms with revenues under $50m.<\/p>\n<p>Wipfli said the survey\u2019s results show construction leaders recognise the value of technology, but there\u2019s still work to do.<\/p>\n<p>The next step is to move away from experimentation to enterprise-wide alignments, where tech isn\u2019t just a tool but a driver of smarter, faster decisions.<\/p>\n<p>Brad Wener, partner and construction and real estate industry leader at Wipfli, said: \u201cTechnology maturity in construction is still in its adolescence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIntegration isn\u2019t optional;
