{"id":154346,"date":"2025-08-21T11:49:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-21T10:49:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=154346"},"modified":"2025-08-21T11:49:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-21T10:49:12","slug":"balfour-beatty-awarded-positions-59bn-national-grid-supply-framework","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/balfour-beatty-awarded-positions-59bn-national-grid-supply-framework\/154346\/","title":{"rendered":"Balfour Beatty awarded positions on \u00a359bn National Grid supply framework"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The High Voltage Direct Current supply chain framework has awarded the firm two places among 19 other suppliers<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgrid.co.uk\/about-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Grid<\/a> supply framework will last for five years, with the potential to extend for another three years.<\/p>\n<p>Balfour Beatty is the only company to receive two appointments on the framework.<\/p>\n<h3>The National Grid supply framework will cover several major projects<\/h3>\n<p>Holding two lots, Balfour Beatty will deliver civil engineering for future converter stations and onshore underground cabling works associated with said converter stations.<\/p>\n<p>The framework as a whole will cover several partnerships for energy projects across both England and Wales.<\/p>\n<p>Stephen Tarr, divisional CEO and group sector lead \u2013 UK energy at Balfour Beatty, said: \u201cOur unique end-to-end capabilities and our extensive civil engineering knowledge makes us ideally positioned to secure the power supply to millions of homes and businesses across England and Wales.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe look forward to working closely and collaboratively with National Grid and our partners on the High Voltage Direct Current supply chain framework, as we build on our long-standing relationship and our history of successful delivery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Zac Richardson, chief engineer and offshore delivery director of strategic infrastructure at National Grid, said: \u201cThis marks a major step forward in delivering the UK\u2019s future energy network. This investment not only underpins the transition to a more secure, independent and low-carbon energy future, but will also support tens of thousands of UK jobs, boost regional supply chains and strengthen our construction and engineering sectors. By building strategic, long-term partnerships with leading UK-based contractors, we\u2019re ensuring the UK is ready to meet the growing demand for electricity with a resilient and modern network.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>National Grid is supporting many projects<\/h3>\n<p>At the start of this month, National Grid announced the appointment of several companies, including Balfour Beatty and Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/national-grid-launch-8bn-electricity-transmission-partnership\/153739\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Electricity Transmission Partnership.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This partnership will help to deliver \u00a38bn worth of substation infrastructure through the creation of regional partnerships.<\/p>\n<p>Partners on the framework are being given regional exclusivity of their substation work based on their performance and commitment to capacity expansion.<\/p>\n<p>On the announcement, energy minister, Michael Shanks, said: \u201cThe clean energy transition is the economic opportunity of the 21st century, with the potential to revitalise our industrial heartlands with skilled jobs and economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis \u00a38 billion partnership from National Grid is proof of that \u2013 providing a boost for Britain\u2019s supply chains, investing in the future of our highly skilled workforce and helping to deliver clean, homegrown power that we control.\u201d<\/p>\n<div
