Peel Waters has announced that GRAHAM will be the main contractor for work on the site, which is the largest brownfield site in Liverpool<\/h2>\n

Peel Waters is continuing its Liverpool Central Docks regeneration, planned to transform the Central Docks into the largest of five planned neighbourhoods in the wider Liverpool Waters district.<\/a><\/p>\n

The appointment of GRAHAM as the main contractor follows their original appointment in December 2024<\/a>, which saw the firm produce final designs and site investigations for the project.<\/p>\n

The largest brownfield plot in the city<\/h3>\n

The whole of the Central Docks brownfield site spans 10.5 hectares. GRAHAM will now be responsible for Central Park, which covers 2.1 hectares, and will be at the heart of the finished project. The park will feature hundreds of new trees and provide new facilities for sports, recreation, and play.<\/p>\n

GRAHAM will now also be working on the infrastructure needed to support 2,350 new homes, including underground utilities, roads, and public realm. Of the homes on offer, there will be build-to-rent, build-to-sell, and homes tailored for elderly living.<\/p>\n

The contract awarded to GRAHAM is worth \u00a371m, making up the largest portion of the total \u00a381.1m cost. The investment includes a \u00a325.9m investment straight from Peel Waters, and \u00a355.2m from Homes England.<\/p>\n

Alastair Lewis, contracts director at GRAHAM, said: \u201cWe\u2019re delighted to be appointed as principal contractor on this landmark scheme for Peel Waters, reflecting our shared commitment to creating infrastructure and neighbourhoods that prioritise sustainability and community.<\/p>\n

A brownfield first approach<\/h3>\n

The current government\u2019s push for building new homes is also prioritising brownfield sites.<\/p>\n

A new development company, Platform4<\/a>, established by Network Rail, is currently working to secure brownfield sites on disused railway land. In July, it was announced that through these means, 15,000 new homes can be delivered over five years, and 40,000 can be delivered in 10 years.<\/p>\n
