The show saw Re-flow recognised for impactful work in the industry and gave perspective to long-term industry initiatives in a way that might be a surprise to some<\/h2>\n<p>Making measurable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/digital-construction-news\/construction-software-news\/avoid-complicating-field-operations-hidden-advantage-smart-forms\/156377\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">improvements to the construction industry<\/a> as a whole has always been a core focus for the Re-flow team.<\/p>\n<p>Their drive is to improve safety and to streamline workflows in a way that aligns to the ever-evolving needs of the sector. That\u2019s to say that initiatives that began in the aftermath of the UK government signing Net Zero into law, can now be seen in pioneering projects in the sector.<\/p>\n<p>From multiple talks discussing the Lower Thames Crossing \u2013 \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.industrialisedconstruction.co.uk\/2025\/10\/07\/how-the-lower-thames-crossing-is-setting-new-standards-for-greener-roads\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the greenest road ever built<\/a>\u2018 \u2013 to National Highways\u2019 commitments to forward-thinking planning on projects, the trend is clear.<\/p>\n<p>Carbon management, incentives for low-carbon construction, and the phasing out of diesel are initiatives happening on the biggest projects in the country \u2013 an approach mirrored by Heathrow, Transport for London, the Environment Agency, and many more.<\/p>\n<p>Very often the benefits of these more forward-thinking projects are felt far and wide. Often, they\u2019re also an essential reaction to changing weather conditions.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Resilience\u2019 was another word that cropped up multiple times during the show. The fact is that the UK\u2019s ever-growing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newcivilengineer.com\/opinion\/industry-must-work-collectively-to-save-the-uks-ageing-assets-20-08-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">renewal backlog of aging infrastructure<\/a> is also faced with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newcivilengineer.com\/in-depth\/road-to-resilience-26-08-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the destructive impact of wetter and hotter weather<\/a>. Planning and design can help mitigate the impact much better than cynicism.<\/p>\n<p>We are finding ways to do better.<\/p>\n<p>For example, as discussed at the show, National Highways are addressing an area around the A628 and A62 in Manchester, where there have been 81 flooding incidents. In collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moorsforthefuture.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Moors for the Future<\/a> they\u2019re redeveloping peatland, which functions as a natural sponge and releases moisture slowly. A secondary benefit is the protection against wildfires.<\/p>\n<p>Other success stories included the A417 scheme \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newcivilengineer.com\/in-depth\/a417-missing-link-scheme-works-with-the-landscape-to-fit-naturally-into-the-cotswolds-environment-23-07-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">with its design and engineering carefully tailored to fit seamlessly into the surrounding environment<\/a>\u2019, and which is \u2013 partly as a result \u2013 the first National Highways project to gain a development consent order without any challenges.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a considerably progressive road design that focuses on providing benefits to the countryside \u2013 improving footpaths, enhancing landscape, and helping limit biodiversity loss.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a
