{"id":157056,"date":"2025-11-14T14:47:58","date_gmt":"2025-11-14T14:47:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=157056"},"modified":"2025-11-14T14:47:58","modified_gmt":"2025-11-14T14:47:58","slug":"new-home-registrations-up-for-third-consecutive-quarter-reports-nhbc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/new-home-registrations-up-for-third-consecutive-quarter-reports-nhbc\/157056\/","title":{"rendered":"New home registrations up for third consecutive quarter, reports NHBC"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Figures released today by the National House Building Council (NHBC), the UK\u2019s largest provider of new home warranties and insurance, show 30,643 new homes were registered to be built in Q3 2025, up 8% on Q3 2024 (28,304)<\/h2>\n<p>The quarter also saw a third consecutive uplift in new home registrations, 1% more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/rise-new-home-registrations-q2-reports-nhbc\/153753\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Q2 2025<\/a> (30,315) and 5% more than Q1 2025 (29,083).<\/p>\n<h3>Other key findings include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Builders and consumers look to Budget for buyer incentives<\/li>\n<li>Detached and semi-detached house volumes hold steady<\/li>\n<li>Bungalow registrations down as builders manage viability challenges<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There were 20,996 private sector registrations in Q3 2025, up 9% on Q3 2024 (19,238). The rental and affordable sector saw a 6% uplift in the same period, with 9,647 new homes registered in Q3 2025 versus 9,066 in Q3 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Across the UK, seven out of 12 regions saw a rise in registrations in Q3 2025 compared to Q3 2024, with the highest increases in the Eastern region (+46%), North West &amp; Merseyside (+34%) and West Midlands (+30%). Northern Ireland saw the biggest decline (-39%), with Yorkshire and Humberside (-23%), Wales (-18%) and London (-6%) also seeing registrations fall year-on-year.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Pearce, corporate strategy director at NHBC explains: \u201cOur latest figures show modest growth in home building, with a steady increase in registrations since the start of the year. While planning reforms and government investment have been welcomed, new home registration growth remains subdued as changes take time to bed in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPersistent affordability constraints mean home ownership remains out of reach for many. Both prospective buyers and builders will be watching the upcoming Budget closely for measures that could make homes more affordable and stimulate activity in the private sale market.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Death of the bungalow<\/h3>\n<p>Registrations were up for all house types with the exception of bungalows which were down 9% in Q3 2025, compared to the same period in 2024, with just 309 registered in the quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel continued: \u201cThere has been much talk of the \u2018death of the bungalow\u2019. Builders, facing rising regulatory and land costs, are increasingly focusing on three and four-bedroom homes over bungalows to maintain scheme viability and concentrate on areas of greatest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/building-quality-homes-in-large-quantities\/156888\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">demand from homebuyers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLooking ahead, we anticipate steady growth in new home registrations as government investment &#8211; particularly in social and affordable housing &#8211; and planning reforms begin to take effect.
