{"id":157914,"date":"2025-12-16T08:30:03","date_gmt":"2025-12-16T08:30:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=157914"},"modified":"2025-12-15T16:52:20","modified_gmt":"2025-12-15T16:52:20","slug":"property-developer-fined-45000-for-construction-site-failures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/property-developer-fined-45000-for-construction-site-failures\/157914\/","title":{"rendered":"Property developer fined \u00a345,000 for construction site failures"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>A Cheshire-based property developer has been fined \u00a345,000 for\u00a0health and safety failures at a Manchester construction site<\/h2>\n<p>During a site inspection at a home build project being undertaken by Stockport Development Limited on Kingsley Road, Manchester, in November 2023, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Health and Safety Executive (HSE)<\/a> found numerous failings, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Missing edge protection on first-floor landings<\/li>\n<li>Missing and damaged security fencing<\/li>\n<li>A lack of fire alarms and extinguishers<\/li>\n<li>Heavily obstructed walkways<\/li>\n<li>Inadequate welfare provision for workers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>The company repeatedly failed to improve standards<\/h3>\n<p>Four Improvement Notices were issued, requiring the company to take immediate action to comply with legal requirements and safeguard both workers and members of the public.<\/p>\n<p>HSE confirmed that the company\u2019s construction sites had been visited on four previous occasions between February 2021 and March 2023, with each inspection resulting in enforcement action due to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/iosh-reveal-nearly-half-workers-risking-construction-safety-shortcuts\/156869\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">inadequate health and safety standards<\/a>. As a result, a formal investigation was launched.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation found that the company had repeatedly failed to discharge its duties as principal contractor and had not acted on earlier warnings or guidance provided by HSE inspectors.<\/p>\n<p>Stockport Development Limited, of Bird Hall Lane, Stockport, Cheshire, pleaded guilty to a breach of regulation 13(1) of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
