Work and Pensions Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cqlke33rzplo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pat McFadden outlined plans<\/a> to create 350,000 training and work experience placements, including 55,000 six-month roles for 18\u201321-year-olds who have been on Universal Credit for 18 months or more.<\/p>\n<p>These placements will be fully subsidised, offering 25 hours per week at the legal minimum wage, funded from an \u00a3820 million allocation running until 2029.<\/p>\n<p>The construction industry has been named as one of the targets for this scheme, though specific employers are yet to be confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>McFadden described the scheme as \u201can offer on one hand, but an expectation on the other.\u201d Young people will need a \u201cgood reason\u201d to decline a placement, with refusal potentially leading to loss of benefits.
