fixtures in the road\u2011marking calendar, the RSMA conference is a great opportunity to bring together National Highways, contractors, manufacturers, training bodies, and Re-flow \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/re-flow.co.uk\/news\/re-flow-officially-endorsed-by-rsma-to-deliver-safer-roads\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the sector\u2019s technology partner<\/a> \u2013 to examine developments and priorities for the year ahead.<\/p>\n<h3>Industry themes from the conference programme<\/h3>\n<p>This year\u2019s programme covered workforce capacity, safety innovation, connected\u2011vehicle technology, health and wellbeing, and compliance.<\/p>\n<h4>Health, safety, and wellbeing<\/h4>\n<p>National Highways\u2019 Melanie Clarke, joined by Andrew Cox (FM Conway), spoke about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.highwayssafetyhub.com\/home-safe--well.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Home Safe &amp; Well approach<\/a> \u2013 a framework emphasising shared responsibility across the supply chain and embedding safety\u2011by\u2011design into day\u2011to\u2011day delivery \u2013 reflecting National Highways\u2019 long\u2011term commitment to reducing harm across the network.<\/p>\n<h4>Technology and innovation in safety<\/h4>\n<p>Several speakers looked at road\u2011marking innovation past, present, and future:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clearview Intelligence explained how newer road\u2011stud systems \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clearview-intelligence.com\/news\/clearview-intelligence-celebrated-with-prestigious-road-safety-gb-corporate-award\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">including solar\u2011powered, sensor\u2011detectable markings<\/a> \u2013 improve visibility for drivers and vehicle sensors.<\/li>\n<li>HAAS Alert presented their digital alerts that warn motorists about roadside works, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.haasalert.com\/news\/wj-group-uk-roadworks-digital-alerting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">building on UK use with WJ Group<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The Road Safety Foundation <a href=\"https:\/\/highways-news.com\/the-road-safety-strategy-dr-suzy-charman-asks-are-we-ready-for-the-tough-choices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pressed for proactive, data\u2011led risk management to cut casualties<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The DfT set out work <a \/><\/h4>\n<h4>Compliance and employment\u2011law updates<\/h4>\n<p>Following a period of significant legislative change, Emma McGrath (Citation) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citation.co.uk\/podcast\/what-the-latest-employment-rights-bill-changes-mean-for-nurseries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">provided an update on new employment\u2011law requirements<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>April 2026 reforms include day\u2011one rights for parental and paternity leave, and a reworked Statutory Sick Pay system that removes the Lower Earnings Limit and makes SSP payable from day one.<\/li>\n<li>A new Fair Work Agency is due in 2026, consolidating enforcement and carrying penalties of up to 200% for National Minimal Wage, Statutory Sick Pay, and holiday\u2011pay underpayments.<\/li>\n<li>October 2026 will strengthen duties to prevent workplace and third\u2011party harassment.<\/li>\n<li>Proposed 2027 changes include day\u2011one unfair dismissal and new rules for zero\u2011hours contracts, such as guaranteed\u2011hours offers and reasonable\u2011notice requirements for shift changes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These updates will roll out
