Work has successfully completed on The Spark<\/a> \u2013 home of the National Centre for Child Health Technology (NCCHT) in Sheffield, with the facility set to become operational later this year<\/h2>\n

The flagship project was delivered by HBC Construction in partnership with Sheffield Children\u2019s NHS Foundation Trust.<\/p>\n

Spanning approximately 43,000 sq ft at the Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, the \u00a317m purpose-built facility brings together global clinical expertise within modern, technology-enabled spaces.<\/p>\n

It will play a leading role in transforming children\u2019s healthcare for the NHS<\/a> in the UK and internationally, driving the development of innovative healthcare technologies and supporting their adoption to improve outcomes for children and young patients.<\/p>\n

Ruth Brown, chief executive at Sheffield Children\u2019s NHS Foundation Trust, stated: \u201cThe completion of Sheffield Children\u2019s newest building, The Spark, is an important milestone for children and young people everywhere.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we celebrate 150 years of Sheffield Children\u2019s, we are proud to open a new facility that will transform care today while also becoming the home of the National Centre for Child Health Technology, helping shape the future of children’s healthcare for generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

The health technology centre received BREEAM Excellent status<\/h3>\n

The building, which will be known as \u2018The Spark\u2019, has been completed to exceptional environmental standards, targeting a BREEAM Excellent rating, with sustainability embedded throughout its design and construction.<\/p>\n

Creating healthier futures for children and young people<\/h3>\n

Funded by Sheffield Children\u2019s NHS Foundation Trust, the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA), Sheffield City Council and Sheffield Children\u2019s Hospital Charity, the facility represents a major collaborative investment in the future of children\u2019s healthcare in the region.<\/p>\n

It will also play a key role in supporting the government\u2019s long-term ambition to improve healthcare by moving care closer to communities, making greater use of digital technology, and focusing on prevention as well as treatment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Spark has been shaped through partnership,\u00a0ambition\u00a0and a shared belief that every child deserves\u00a0the\u00a0very best\u00a0healthcare,\u201d said Brown<\/p>\n

\u201cWorking with children and young people, clinicians, colleagues who support our services, and our construction partner, HBC Construction, we have designed and delivered a new space that will help us in our mission to create healthier futures for children and young people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Social value was rooted in the Spark building process<\/h3>\n

Throughout the construction process, social value has been rooted in the scheme. Last summer, representatives from HBC, Sheffield Children\u2019s NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, Sheffield Children\u2019s Hospital Charity, SYMCA and Sheffield City Council \u2013 as well as young people involved in the project \u2013 took part in a steel signing ceremony, writing their names, visions and hopes for the future of healthcare on the structure.<\/p>\n

The NCCHT is now set to open during Sheffield Children\u2019s 150th<\/sup> anniversary year and the 50th<\/sup> anniversary of the Sheffield Children\u2019s Hospital Charity.<\/p>\n
