{"id":165014,"date":"2026-10-08T14:30:23","date_gmt":"2026-10-08T13:30:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=165014"},"modified":"2026-10-08T14:38:41","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T13:38:41","slug":"building-pathology-conference-2026-address-challenges-in-built-environment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/building-pathology-conference-2026-address-challenges-in-built-environment\/165014\/","title":{"rendered":"2026 edition of industry-leading Building Pathology Conference takes place"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>A leading Building Pathology conference returned for its 2026 edition, with over 100 attendees taking in the most up-to-date industry insights from a range of experts<\/h2>\n<p>H+R SOCOTEC UK\u2019s Building Pathology Conference 2026 (BP26), took place between 10-11 September at Oxford Brookes University (OBU).<\/p>\n<p>BP26 was the second modern holding of the event, following years of successful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/fire-safety-building-pathology-10-11-lancaster-gate\/163559\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">building pathology<\/a> conferences held by Hutton + Rostron in the 1980s and 90s.<\/p>\n<h3>Where academic excellence meets industry expertise<\/h3>\n<p>In partnership with OBU, this year\u2019s event, with the theme Solving Tomorrow&#8217;s Problems Today, brought together researchers, practitioners and industry leaders to discuss everything pertaining to building pathology.<\/p>\n<p>Speakers from SOCOTEC UK, Oxford Brookes University, UCL and others informed and entertained the audience with a range of presentations, case studies and personal anecdotes.<\/p>\n<p>There was also representation from a range of other academic institutions, such as Loughborough University, De Montfort University, University of the West of England, University of Oxford, UCL Institute for Sustainable Heritage and Heriot-Watt University, to give fascinating insights over the two days.<\/p>\n<p>Dr David Watt, visiting professor at OBU and associate director of H+R, led the proceedings, and said of this year\u2019s event: \u201cBP26 was a fantastic conference which gave our teams the chance to come together with the wider building pathology community and address the complex challenges facing our built environment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe heard from a wealth of speakers on topics as diverse as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) fire modelling, retrofit opportunities, property flood resilience, RAAC and many more topics, and it was great to see our participants engaging with the speakers, asking really thought-provoking questions which led to some great debate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce again, it was great to partner with Oxford Brookes University to create a forum where academic excellence met practical industry expertise. Michael passed away in August 2025 and was an exceptional architect and building pathologist with H+R, who impacted so many within the building pathology community.<\/p>\n<p>David added: \u201cMichael exemplified the highest professional and ethical standards, treating his clients\u2019 challenges as his own and advising them with outstanding technical excellence.
