The Construction Industry Training Board is looking for feedback on new plans to reform the construction skills system, which will create clearer and more flexible routes for people to enter construction<\/h2>\n

Under the reformed skills system, individuals could gain recognition for their competence in the tasks or functions they do at work, without having to undertake a whole new qualification.<\/p>\n

It recognises what someone can do in a defined area of work<\/a>, such as installing solar panels on roofs.<\/p>\n

Creating a route to specific qualifications<\/h3>\n

The reformed construction skills system would not replace existing competence routes, such as NVQs and apprenticeships.<\/p>\n

Instead, it works alongside them as another route to competence in specific activities.<\/p>\n

Like existing routes, these will be subject to industry-approved and independently reviewed standards.<\/p>\n

New regulations and advancing tech highlight the need for reformed construction skills<\/h3>\n

New building methods, advancing technology and the greater focus on competence due to the Building Safety Act<\/a> are reshaping the skills the construction industry needs and how they are demonstrated.<\/p>\n

The CITB is exploring how the competence system can better reflect workers’ existing skills. This could benefit new entrants, career changers and experienced workers alike, helping the industry attract and keep talent.<\/p>\n
