{"id":167116,"date":"2026-10-29T11:58:11","date_gmt":"2026-10-29T11:58:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=167116"},"modified":"2026-10-29T11:58:11","modified_gmt":"2026-10-29T11:58:11","slug":"construction-professionals-progress-capture-reporting-data-quality-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/digital-construction-news\/construction-software-news\/construction-professionals-progress-capture-reporting-data-quality-challenge\/167116\/","title":{"rendered":"30% of construction professionals identify progress capture, reporting and data quality as their primary challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>We asked over 200 planners and senior construction leaders across multiple sectors \u201cWhat&#8217;s the biggest challenge in keeping your programme aligned with what&#8217;s happening on site?\u201d as part of our joint <a href=\"https:\/\/eleco.com\/news\/progressing-projects-site-reality-symterra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">webinar with SymTerra<\/a><\/h2>\n<h3>Key statistics<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>30% of respondents identified progress capture, reporting and data quality as their primary challenge<\/strong>, making it the most frequently cited issue across the survey.<\/li>\n<li><strong>40-50%<\/strong> of main contractor responses focused on programme visibility, progress reporting and obtaining reliable site updates.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Around 50%<\/strong> of consultant and project controls responses focused on data accuracy, reporting quality and planned-versus-actual performance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Four in ten respondents highlighted either progress reporting or information flow challenges<\/strong>, pointing to a widespread need for better visibility of site activity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Both planners and senior leaders ranked confidence in project reporting among their top concerns<\/strong>, indicating that programme visibility is a business-wide issue rather than a planning-only problem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The evidence does not support a simple \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/digital-construction-news\/construction-software-news\/reactive-predictive-why-structured-planning-data-key-powerful-construction-intelligence\/155615\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">planners focus on data and process<\/a>, whilst leadership focuses on the people and governance\u201d split. However, senior leaders mention change, delay and sequencing proportionally more often; planners mention workload, supply-chain constraints and programme adoption somewhat more often.<\/p>\n<p>The differences become clearer when we look at the findings by sector, from main contractors, specialist contractors and MEP firms, to consultants and asset managers and owners.<\/p>\n<p>Across all respondents, <strong>30% identified progress capture, reporting and data quality as their primary concern<\/strong>, making it the most frequently cited issue regardless of role or organisation type.<\/p>\n<p>Among main contractors, <strong>approximately 40-50% of responses focused on programme visibility, reporting accuracy and obtaining reliable updates from site teams<\/strong>, while specialist contractors and MEP firms were more likely to highlight coordination challenges, with <strong>around one-third citing subcontractor, trade or supply-chain dependencies as the biggest obstacle to programme alignment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Consultants and project controls specialists demonstrated the strongest focus on governance and reporting integrity, with <strong>around half of consultant responses referencing data accuracy, progress validation or confidence in planned-versus-actual performance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Naturally, clients, developers and owners showed greater interest in understanding programme impacts and supporting strategic decisions than in site-level reporting processes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese findings are really aligned with the conversations we have with our <a href=\"https:\/\/eleco.com\/products\/asta\/asta-vision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Asta Vision<\/a> customers around <a href=\"https:\/\/eleco.com\/news\/connected-data-helps-identify-warning-signs-in-construction-projects\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">managing risk and programme visibility<\/a>,\u201d commented Gerry Kelliher, managing director of <a href=\"https:\/\/eleco.com\/products\/asta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eleco UK<\/a>. \u201cWe find that whilst everyone\u2019s motivation is different, at the end of the day, it\u2019s progress visibility that helps to deliver programmes on time or even ahead of a schedule.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Most of the people we spoke to don&#8217;t have a planning problem, they have an information problem. The programme is only as good as the last update from site, and that update is usually late, vague, or both.
