Willmott Dixon has been appointed by Transport for Greater Manchester to carry out Phase 1 of Bury Interchange\u2019s regeneration, worth \u00a317.9m<\/h2>\n

Procured through the SCAPE Construction Framework<\/a>, Phase 1 of Bury Interchange will include Metrolink tram platform improvement works and a new footbridge over the Metrolink tram lines, providing a direct link to Union Square, with step-free access to Pyramid Park via a new pedestrian route.\u00a0 The bridge will allow plans for Phase 2 of the redevelopment to progress, with the footbridge ensuring passengers can access trams once the next phase of the scheme gets underway.<\/p>\n

Willmott Dixon is due to begin works in November, with Phase 1 completion expected in early 2028.<\/p>\n

Vernon Everitt, transport commissioner for Greater Manchester, commented: \u201cThe redevelopment of Bury Interchange will make journeys easier for people using Bee Network trams and buses and deliver vast improvements for Bury town centre.<\/p>\n

\u201cStarting next month, we will begin to turn this outdated facility into a modern, accessible and welcoming place, putting public transport at the heart of the town’s regeneration.\u201d<\/p>\n

A history of successful transport redevelopment schemes<\/h3>\n

Willmott Dixon and TfGM previously worked together to deliver the award-winning \u00a3140m Stockport Interchange scheme, which turned Stockport\u2019s bus station into a modern transport interchange and mixed-use facility.<\/p>\n

More recently, they worked together on a separate \u00a340m programme of bus depot electrification projects, as part of TfGM\u2019s new integrated transport network.<\/p>\n

Phase 1 of Bury Interchange will help enable plans for wider redevelopment<\/h3>\n

Anthony Dillon, managing director for Willmott Dixon in the North, stated: \u201cWe are proud to be working alongside Transport for Greater Manchester once again on another vital investment in local transport facilities in the heart of Bury, creating a key piece of infrastructure to help enable plans for the wider regeneration of Bury Interchange.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an exciting time for Bury with the ongoing Bury Town Centre masterplan<\/a>, and we\u2019re excited to be playing our part in helping re-shape Bury Interchange, providing a 57-meter steel pedestrian footbridge and essential platform and access upgrades to support Phase 2 of the Interchange\u2019s redevelopment.\u201d<\/p>\n
