{"id":18363,"date":"2015-06-16T10:01:28","date_gmt":"2015-06-16T10:01:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.adjacentgovernment.co.uk\/planning\/?p=18363"},"modified":"2015-06-16T10:01:28","modified_gmt":"2015-06-16T10:01:28","slug":"affordable-homes-top-260000-mark","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/affordable-homes-top-260000-mark\/18363\/","title":{"rendered":"Affordable homes top 260,000 mark"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>New figures released today have revealed that more than 260,000 affordable homes have been delivered since April 2010.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Housing Minister Brandon Lewis hailed the efforts and said work had already started on delivering a further 275,000 homes with \u00a338 billion public and private investment for the Affordable Homes Programme in the next 5 years.<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s<span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/statistical-data-sets\/live-tables-on-affordable-housing-supply \">figures<\/a><\/span>\u00a0show that nearly 60,000 affordable homes were delivered in the last year alone \u2013 a rise of 63% on the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>This means the government\u2019s 2011 to 2015 <span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/affordable-homes-programme-2011-to-2015-guidance-and-allocations\">Affordable Homes Programme<\/a><\/span>\u00a0has exceeded expectations, delivering nearly 186,000 affordable homes since April 2011 \u2013 16,000 more than originally planned.<\/p>\n<p>In total, government figures show that 263,600 affordable homes have been delivered since April 2010, providing a real boost to families across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Housing Minister Brandon Lewis said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis government is determined to ensure anyone who works hard and aspires to own their own home should have the opportunity to turn their dream into a reality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur affordable housebuilding efforts are exceeding our ambitions and delivering more than 260,000 affordable homes. It\u2019s a boost to families across the country, providing them with new quality homes that are available at an affordable rent or to buy through our shared ownership scheme.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is real progress but we know there is more to do. That\u2019s why \u00a338 billion of public and private investment will be made available over the next 5 years to deliver 275,000 extra affordable homes \u2013 the fastest rate of delivery for 20 years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Affordable Homes Programme includes social rented homes, affordable rented homes and affordable home ownership schemes, and is a key part of the government\u2019s long-term economic plan.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly a third of affordable homes delivered last year were in London.<\/p>\n<p>The government claims it is committed to getting Britain building and providing new homes for hard-working families across the country. This has seen:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; more than 570,000 new homes built since April 2010<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; planning permissions for 253,000 new homes in the last year to December<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; housing starts at their highest annual level since 2007<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; housing construction orders almost doubled since 2009<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; more council houses built since 2010 than in the previous 13 years<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; number of empty homes across England at lowest rate since records began<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; the number of first-time buyers at a 7-year high<\/p>\n<div class=\"mk-custom-module-container\">\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New figures released today have revealed that more than 260,000 affordable homes have been delivered since April 2010.
