Cardiff University has been awarded funding to investigate the role of urban greening in boosting sustainability\u2026<\/span><\/h2>\n

Cardiff University\u2019s School of Planning and Geography<\/span><\/a> and the Welsh School of Architecture<\/span><\/a> have won a grant to investigate urban greening. The funding will be used to discover how it can boost water supply, improve flood management, and increase sustainability.<\/p>\n

The grant was awarded to the university and its partners from the USA and Indonesia. The consortium forms part of the Global Innovation Initiative<\/span><\/a>. This programme is backed by both the UK and US governments and aims to strengthen research collaboration between universities in the UK, US, and emerging economies.<\/p>\n

The project is expected to span two years and will focus on topics such as urban forestry and green building design. It will examine how transferable these are through a series of workshops hosted by the three partners.<\/p>\n

Cardiff University senior lecturer Dr Andrea Frank<\/span><\/a> said: “We hope to provide substantial economic, social and environmental gains not only for the US and Europe, but also developing countries around the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo do this, we will need to develop approaches that are sensitive to local culture, knowledge and expertise.”<\/p>\n

Another grant was also awarded to the University of Exeter and its partner universities in Florida and China. This consortium will investigate flood impact assessment in mega-cities under climate change.<\/p>\n
