Recruitment consultancy firm Ionic Recruitment said permanent construction workers saw their wages increase by eight per cent over the past 12 months\u2026<\/span><\/h2>\n

Over the past 12 months permanent construction workers have seen their wages increase by eight per cent.<\/p>\n

Research carried out by consultancy firm Ionic Recruitment<\/span><\/a> showed quantity surveyors experienced the largest increase, with salaries rising by 45 per cent. The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors<\/span><\/a> said this was due largely to the demand for services outstripping supply and warned this is likely to continue into the future. Assistant quantity surveyors also benefited from a 20.6 per cent rise.<\/p>\n

Site managers also saw an increase in pay, growing by 26.5 per cent, as did tenant liaison officers, who saw wages grow by 26.5 per cent. Additionally business development managers saw their pay rise by 25 per cent.<\/p>\n

Temporary workers also benefited from growth in the sector, seeing a seven per cent rise when compared to a year earlier. Painters and decorators saw the most significant rise at 43 per cent, while ground workers and joiners saw a 23 and 15 per cent increase, respectively.<\/p>\n

Managing Director of Ionic Recruitment Martyn Makinson said: “There’s been a marked increase in new construction projects in the last 12 months, which is backed up by the recent construction output forecast results.<\/p>\n

“The recent general election has also been a boost, as construction companies now know what they can expect from the Government for the next five years.<\/p>\n

“Senior roles have clearly seen a larger increase in salary thanks to the demand for experienced workers. With current employment gaps and a shortage of construction contractors, now is an opportune time to consider a career within the construction sector.”<\/p>\n
