{"id":23870,"date":"2016-05-04T10:06:45","date_gmt":"2016-05-04T10:06:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=23870"},"modified":"2016-05-04T10:07:40","modified_gmt":"2016-05-04T10:07:40","slug":"considerate-construction-sites-revealed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/considerate-construction-sites-revealed\/23870\/","title":{"rendered":"Most considerate construction sites revealed"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span>Four contractors have been awarded the title of the Most Considerate Site accolade at the National Site Awards\u2026<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Costain, Gentoo Construction, Robert Woodhead Ltd, and Walter Thompson Ltd) have been named the Most Considerate Site during the 2016 National Site Awards.<\/p>\n<p>The awards were given by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccscheme.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span>Considerate Constructors Scheme<\/span><\/a>, a non-profit organisation aimed at helping the construction sector to improve its image.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first time four sites have won the award, which now allows sites to be assessed against projects of a similar value. The categories are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Under \u00a3500,000<\/li>\n<li>\u00a3500,000 to less than \u00a35m<\/li>\n<li>\u00a35m to less than \u00a310m<\/li>\n<li>\u00a310m and over<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Robert Woodhead Ltd was granted the award for its Denton Green Bungalows project. The scheme, which was valued at under \u00a3500,000, involved the construction of four new bungalows on a brownfield site in Broxtowe, Nottinghamshire.<\/p>\n<p>Walter Thompson\u2019s award was given in recognition of the refurbishment work undertaken at Linthorpe School, Middlesbrough. The project saw the construction of a single-storey classroom and office extension. This fell into the \u00a3500,000 to less than \u00a35m category.<\/p>\n<p>The \u00a35m to less than \u00a310m category was won by Gentoo Construction for The Cheviots projects. This saw the construction of a 40-bed extra care home and six new bungalows in Northumberland.<\/p>\n<p>The highest value category (\u00a310m and over) was awarded to Costain for its work on the A556 Knutsford to Bowdon Improvement scheme in Cheshire. This saw the construction of 4.7 miles of main road, with bridges and underpasses.<\/p>\n<p>The ceremonies, which were held between 11 to 29 April in Edinburgh, London, and Manchester, were attended by over 3,000 guests from construction sites of different sizes. A total of 13 ceremonies were held, during which some 932 National Site Awards were presented. Alongside the four Most Considerate Site awards, the scheme also presented 430 bronze, 298 silver, and 173 gold awards. Additionally, there were 32 Most Considerate Site runners-up. The awards were given to registered sites that completed in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>To win an award, projects registered with the scheme had to demonstrate an appreciation of the impact on the community, environment, and the workforce. Some 9,000 sites were eligible for an award this year.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Executive of the Considerate Constructors Scheme Edward Hardy said: \u201cCongratulations to each and every site receiving a 2016 National Site Award. Every year, the Scheme is taken aback by the many different ways contractors demonstrate their considerate credentials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year has been no exception, with project teams across the UK serving as beacons of best practice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpecial congratulations go to each of the 2016 Most Considerate Sites. These sites have shown truly exceptional performance, making tremendous efforts in going way above and beyond compliance with the Scheme \u2013 taking considerate construction to a new level.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey have worked with enthusiasm and dedication to ensure that they showcase the very best of the construction industry, helping to make construction a more attractive career choice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year\u2019s introduction of value bands underlines that no matter what size or scale of construction site, consideration towards the community, workforce and environment makes a marked difference in improving the image of the industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy congratulations again, and also my thanks to all winners for their continued commitment and hard work in striving towards an ever improving construction industry.
