A firm has received a fine after a skip loader tipped crushing the leg of a worker\u2026<\/span><\/h2>\n

Mead Construction Limited has received a fine after a worker was crushed by a skip loader. The firm, based in Cambridge, was fined \u00a340,000 for the incident.<\/p>\n

The accident occurred in February 2015. The firm was undertaking work to make a sewer connection from a domestic property in Haddenham to the main sewer.<\/p>\n

The skip loader overturned while tipping onto a spoil heap, crushing the worker\u2019s leg. The worker suffered fractures to his right ankle, as well as sprained ligaments.<\/p>\n

Investigators from the Health and Safety Executive<\/span><\/a> revealed the firm failed to plan, manage, and monitor the work of the skip loader. This included allowing an untrained employee to use the vehicle while not wearing a seatbelt.<\/p>\n

The case against Mead Construction Limited was brought to Cambridge Crown Court. The firm pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 13(2) of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007, and Regulation 9(1) of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998. It was fined \u00a340,000 and ordered to pay costs of \u00a35,787.<\/p>\n
