{"id":25147,"date":"2016-07-28T13:17:23","date_gmt":"2016-07-28T13:17:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/planningandbuildingcontroltoday.co.uk\/?p=25147"},"modified":"2016-11-10T09:51:33","modified_gmt":"2016-11-10T09:51:33","slug":"employment-shortage-faces-industry-post-brexit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/employment-shortage-faces-industry-post-brexit\/25147\/","title":{"rendered":"Employment shortages faces the industry post-Brexit"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>A RICS survey has revealed a fall in employment levels and a shortage of skilled workers following the vote to leave the EU\u2026<\/h2>\n<p>A new survey from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rics.org\/uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Royal Institution for Chartered Surveyors<\/a> (RICS) has shown a slowdown in construction employment levels after the vote to leave the EU.<\/p>\n<p>According to the industry body, which represents chartered surveyors, uncertainty following the Brexit vote led to delayed investment and saw employment levels fall.<\/p>\n<p>It had been estimated employment would see a two per cent growth in the second quarter, but this has now been amended to 0.6 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>One field that is seeing significant issues is quantity surveyors. According to the Construction Market Survey, a shortage of quantity surveyors is having an impact on 57 per cent of firms.<\/p>\n<p>Shortages of skilled workers has been an ongoing issue for a while, with the sector reporting significant problems with recruitment. The survey revealed 59 per cent of firms reported problems filling vacancies for bricklayers.<\/p>\n<p>It is expected workloads will increase by one per cent over the next 12 months. However, this figure is lower than the forecast made in the first quarter of 2.8 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Simon Rubinsohn, RICS Chief Economist, said: \u201cThe latest results from the RICS Construction Market Survey suggest that the second quarter of the year saw a further moderation in the growth trend which is not altogether surprising given the build-up to the EU referendum.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSignificantly, the biggest issue at the present time alongside uncertainty looks to be credit constraints with over two thirds of contributors highlighting this issue as a concern.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cNevertheless, anecdotal evidence does indicate that the challenge for the British government in establishing a new relationship with the EU could see some investment plans in the construction sector scaled back.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"mk-custom-module-container\">\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A RICS survey has revealed a fall in employment levels and a shortage of skilled workers following the vote to leave the EU\u2026 A new survey from the Royal Institution for Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has shown a slowdown in construction employment levels after the vote to leave the EU.
