{"id":26102,"date":"2016-07-06T14:54:09","date_gmt":"2016-07-06T14:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/planningandbuildingcontroltoday.co.uk\/?p=24868"},"modified":"2016-09-20T14:36:41","modified_gmt":"2016-09-20T14:36:41","slug":"firms-prosecuted-for-crane-worker-roof-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/firms-prosecuted-for-crane-worker-roof-death\/26102\/","title":{"rendered":"Firms prosecuted for crane worker roof death"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span>Two firms have been fined following the death of a worker after a fall through a factory roof in 2013\u2026<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Prosecutions have been brought against two firms after a worker was killed.<\/p>\n<p>Premier Roofing Systems Limited and A-Lift Crane Hire Limited were fined a total of \u00a3223,000 for safety failings.<\/p>\n<p>The case, which was brought before Northampton Crown Court, revealed how Premier Roofing Systems Limited hired A-Lift Crane Hire Limited to provide mobile crane equipment to lift roofing sheets onto a factory roof.<\/p>\n<p>The employee fell through an unprotected skylight when the sheets were being lifted and was killed as a result of the injuries he sustained.<\/p>\n<p>A subsequent investigation by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span>Health and Safety Executive<\/span><\/a> found measures to allow employees to work safely on the roof were not in place.<\/p>\n<p>Premier Roofing Systems Limited pleaded guilty to breaching Section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974. The firm was fined \u00a3140,250 and ordered to pay costs of \u00a341,428.<\/p>\n<p>A-Lift Crane Hire Limited also pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, and received a fine of \u00a383,300, with associated costs of \u00a321,500.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mk-custom-module-container\">\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two firms have been fined following the death of a worker after a fall through a factory roof in 2013\u2026 Prosecutions have been brought against two firms after a worker was killed.
