{"id":27483,"date":"2016-09-26T09:52:09","date_gmt":"2016-09-26T09:52:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=25907"},"modified":"2016-11-23T12:37:23","modified_gmt":"2016-11-23T12:37:23","slug":"invasive-weed-control-conference-examine-cutting-edge-strategies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/invasive-weed-control-conference-examine-cutting-edge-strategies\/27483\/","title":{"rendered":"Invasive Weed Control Conference to examine cutting-edge strategies"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span>New innovative strategies will be the focus of the second annual Invasive Weed Control Conference<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.property-care.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span>Property Care Association<\/span><\/a> (PCA) is to host the second annual Invasive Weed Conference on the 22 November.<\/p>\n<p>The event will take place at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theiet.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span>Institution of Engineering Technology<\/span><\/a> (IET) in London, and will address the potentially detrimental impacts of non-native invasive plants while showcasing strategies to tackle this issue.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018Risk, Roots and Research\u2019 event will include speakers with expertise in law, academia, ecology and technology. It is a follow up to the highly successful inaugural conference held last year by the PCA\u2019s specialist Invasive Weed Control Group.<\/p>\n<p>The conference will comprise of a three session format, offering cutting-edge insight into the main issues relating to the management of key invasive weeds.<\/p>\n<p>The first session, \u2018Risk\u2019, will be led by barrister Leo Charalambides and will discuss the legal ramifications of tackling invasive weeds.<\/p>\n<p>Head of Professional Risk at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legalandgeneral.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span>Legal and General<\/span><\/a> James Ginley will discuss <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/pbc-edition-010\/japanese-knotweed-control-2\/21880\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span>Japanese knotweed<\/span><\/a>, a plant that is causing significant problems, and its risk to property.<\/p>\n<p>In the \u2018Roots\u2019 session Dr Mark Fennell, Principal Ecologist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aecom.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span>AECOM<\/span><\/a>, will discuss mapping and surveying invasive non-native species, as well as an overview on the management of invasive weed remediation from Richard Newis, of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ashfieldjk.co.uk\/japanese-knotweed\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span>Ashfield Japanese Knotweed<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There will also be a session on the growth of aquatic invasive plants. This will be presented by Dr Johan van Valkenburg of the National Plant Protection Organisation.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018Research\u2019 section will cover biocontrol and physiochemical control optimisation.
