{"id":30332,"date":"2017-01-31T14:20:34","date_gmt":"2017-01-31T14:20:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=30332"},"modified":"2017-01-31T14:20:34","modified_gmt":"2017-01-31T14:20:34","slug":"firms-urged-join-construction-waste-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/firms-urged-join-construction-waste-scheme\/30332\/","title":{"rendered":"Firms in Scotland are being urged to join construction waste scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Scottish firms are being encouraged to identify opportunities to reduce the amount of construction waste they produce via a new programme<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zerowastescotland.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Zero Waste Scotland<\/a> is calling on construction businesses in Scotland to sign up for free waste prevention support from the Resource Efficient Scotland advice and support programme.<\/p>\n<p>Aimed at small and medium sized enterprises, the programme hopes to help the construction industry identify opportunities to reduce the amount of waste it produces.<\/p>\n<h3>Construction sector produces significant waste<\/h3>\n<p>The construction sector is the single largest producer of waste in Scotland, creating over four million tonnes in 2014 from nearly 50,000 enterprises.<\/p>\n<p>Zero Waste Scotland\u2019s head of resource efficiency Marissa Lippiatt said: \u201cConstruction is a crucial part of the Scottish economy, but we must acknowledge that it is by far the largest contributor to landfill tonnages too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRecycling performance has improved in the sector over the years but there is lots more work still to be done in preventing the waste from ever being created in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor those getting involved in the programme it is a great way to show your commitment to change and we hope to share some positive examples of how Scottish businesses are leading the way in this sector over the coming months.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Support and training<\/h3>\n<p>The programme will not only provide support for projects during all phases of the construction process, but will also deliver a range of services such as tailored on-site support, training for employees, and technical workshops.<\/p>\n<p>A fund will also be made available to support waste prevention measures.<\/p>\n<p>The first free training workshop will be held on the 14 February in Glasgow. Other workshops will take place later in Edinburgh and Inverness.
