Build UK and Collab Group have launched a new further education course aimed at providing the training needed to embark on a construction apprenticeship<\/h2>\n

A one year further education course has been launched by Build UK<\/a> and Collab Group<\/a>. The course, which will be piloted across seven different colleges, will give young people the introductory skills necessary to embark on an apprenticeship.<\/p>\n

Combined expertise<\/h3>\n

The launch will bring together the expertise of Build UK, an organisation that represents the construction supply chain, and Collab Group, who represent 35 of the largest colleges and college groups across the country.<\/p>\n

It is hoped the course can deliver high quality technical and professional education while fundamentally changing the behaviour of the construction and further education sectors.<\/p>\n

Providing opportunities for students<\/h3>\n

The course will increase the number of construction apprenticeships, and with an employer-led focus will also help boost employment opportunities for students involved in the course.<\/p>\n

Build UK<\/a> Chief Executive Suzannah Nichol MBE said: \u201cOur aim is to inspire young people to choose a career in construction, but we can\u2019t do it on our own.<\/p>\n

\u201cBuild UK\u2019s partnership with Collab Group is a game changer; we will develop a course which is employer led, run by the UK\u2019s most progressive colleges, and creates opportunities to meet the needs of employers and young people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ian Pretty, Chief Executive of Collab Group, added: \u201cCollab Group Colleges already make a significant contribution to the training needs of the construction industry and we are delighted to work with Build UK on this exciting project.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis partnership highlights the need and opportunity for FE to engage with industry on a national level.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe construction sector is vital to the long-term growth and productivity of the UK economy, it is a critical pathway in the Government\u2019s Post-16 Skills Plan and we welcome this opportunity to provide more young people with a way into the industry.\u201d<\/p>\n
