{"id":35545,"date":"2017-10-09T10:04:12","date_gmt":"2017-10-09T09:04:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=35545"},"modified":"2017-10-09T10:04:12","modified_gmt":"2017-10-09T09:04:12","slug":"construction-company-fined-for-safety-risks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/construction-company-fined-for-safety-risks\/35545\/","title":{"rendered":"Construction company fined for safety risks"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Construction company, In House Design and Build Limited, based in London have been fined for repeatedly failing to manage and regulate multiple risks<\/h2>\n<p>In House Design and Build Limited pleaded guilty at Reading Magistrates\u2019 Court to two breaches under regulation 13 (1) of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/uksi\/2015\/51\/contents\/made\">construction design and management regulations 2015<\/a> \u2013 the duties of a principal contractor in relation to health and safety at the construction phase. The company was fined \u00a3100,000.<\/p>\n<p>The court heard how \u2013 after concerns were raised by both workers and members of the public \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/\">Health and Safety Executive <\/a>(HSE) inspectors made a number of visits during 2015 to two project sites where In House Design and Build was the principal contractor and identified a number of severe health and safety flaws.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation by the HSE discovered that over a four-month period at the first site, and despite several enforcement notices being served, the company still failed to adequately address the risks.<\/p>\n<p>Further similar concerns were found later in the year at the second site, where very poor welfare arrangements were also noted.<\/p>\n<p>The project manager Neil Crow, who had been in charge of operations at both sites, also pleaded guilty to two breaches under regulation 13 (1) of the construction design and management regulations 2015 and was fined \u00a315,000.<\/p>\n<p>Dominic Goacher, inspector for Health and Safety Executive, said: \u201cPrincipal contractors and their managers have a duty to ensure risks to workers are managed throughout the construction phase of projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis case serves as a reminder to those responsible of the importance of ensuring construction work is properly planned, managed and monitored so that serious risks are identified and eliminated or controlled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was only by good fortune that someone was not seriously injured or killed in this instance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Full costs of \u00a315,000 were also awarded.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mk-custom-module-container\">\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A construction company and project manager based in London have been fined for repeatedly failing to manage and regulate multiple risks<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":16,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[309],"tags":[676,432,753],"stakeholder_rel_tag":[],"contributor_rel_tag":[],"class_list":{"0":"post-35545","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","6":"category-health-safety-news","7":"tag-construction","8":"tag-health-safety","9":"tag-safety"},"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v26.9 (Yoast SEO v26.9) - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-premium-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Construction company fined for safety risks | Planning, Building &amp;
