{"id":35684,"date":"2017-10-13T15:38:51","date_gmt":"2017-10-13T14:38:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=35684"},"modified":"2017-10-13T15:38:51","modified_gmt":"2017-10-13T14:38:51","slug":"self-builders-in-the-uk-enjoy-more-space-for-less-money","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/self-builders-in-the-uk-enjoy-more-space-for-less-money\/35684\/","title":{"rendered":"Self-builders in the UK \u2018enjoy more space for less money\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Latest figures suggest that self-builders in the UK are doubling the size of their homes while paying up to 27% less than the price of an existing house or new build<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.homebuilding.co.uk\/market-report\/\">Self &amp; Custom Build Market Report<\/a> revealed that those who built their own house appeared to enjoy significantly more space and comfort of approximately 247m<sup>2<\/sup> as opposed to England\u2019s average of 94m<sup>2<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the same survey, conducted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.homebuilding.co.uk\/\">Homebuilding &amp; Renovating<\/a>, reinforced the financial benefits of opting for this route, as the significant savings self-builders can achieve through development gains, lower production costs and an element of positive house price inflation are approximately\u00a025%, with the average finished house value being \u00a3717,071.<\/p>\n<p>When examining how self-builds compared against the average size of homes in the current market, the North East stood out as having the largest dimensions of 373m<sup>2<\/sup>, followed by Northern Ireland. Expectedly, London had the smallest average at just 191m<sup>2<\/sup>. Based on their UK location, the size was two or even three times bigger than the existing or newly built properties.<\/p>\n<p>According to Jason Orme, spokesperson for The <a href=\"http:\/\/harrogate.homebuildingshow.co.uk\/\">Northern Homebuilding &amp; Renovating Show<\/a>: \u201cSelf-builders are making the most of the market as they know the financial and practical results will be more rewarding than if they were to buy a new house. Building your own home allows you to choose its specifications and customise it for your needs. We can confidently say \u2013 self-builders appreciate their space.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The main source of data that this report is based on is an entirely new comprehensive consumer survey of 500 self-builders who had either recently completed or were about to complete their project. This research was conducted via an online survey in 2017.
