{"id":36307,"date":"2017-11-10T10:50:20","date_gmt":"2017-11-10T10:50:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=36307"},"modified":"2017-11-10T10:50:20","modified_gmt":"2017-11-10T10:50:20","slug":"heathrow-reveals-list-for-offsite-construction-logistic-hubs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/heathrow-reveals-list-for-offsite-construction-logistic-hubs\/36307\/","title":{"rendered":"Heathrow reveals list for offsite construction logistic hubs"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Heathrow Airport has produced a list of 65 potential logistic hubs to serve as centres for offsite construction, selected from an initial 121 applications<\/h2>\n<p>From these 65 locations, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/consultation-reopens-for-third-runway-at-heathrow\/35947\">Heathrow <\/a>will select four to be offsite construction and manufacturing logistic hubs to support the airport\u2019s expansion plans.<\/p>\n<p>The long-list includes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.laingorourke.com\/\">Laing O\u2019Rourke<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.balfourbeatty.com\/\">Balfour Beatty<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tarmac.com\/\">Tarmac <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.severfield.com\/\">Severfield<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Heathrow plans to use its \u00a316bn expansion to drive growth in offsite construction across the UK. The new logistics hubs will pre-assemble components of the expanded airport before transporting them in consolidated loads to Heathrow. One of the benefits is seen as spreading the jobs created by the project across more communities. In April 2017 it invited bids to host the hubs as part of its supply chain management plans.<\/p>\n<p>Heathrow chairman Lord Deighton said: \u201cThe third runway is not a London centric project \u2013 it is one we are opening up to the whole of the UK, asking for its skills and expertise to help build an asset this country so desperately needs to safeguard its future prosperity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Heathrow expects the logistic hubs to \u201ccreate a legacy of construction excellence in the UK for future generations\u201d. The selection process is also expected to add force to the airport\u2019s political influence.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ceca.co.uk\/\">Civil Engineering Contractors Association<\/a> chief executive Alasdair Reisner said: \u201cWe are keen that the whole of the UK benefits from the expansion of Heathrow.
