{"id":36352,"date":"2017-11-13T11:27:09","date_gmt":"2017-11-13T11:27:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=36352"},"modified":"2017-11-13T11:27:09","modified_gmt":"2017-11-13T11:27:09","slug":"cibse-to-launch-green-infrastructure-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/cibse-to-launch-green-infrastructure-challenge\/36352\/","title":{"rendered":"CIBSE to launch Green Infrastructure challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The third annual Green Infrastructure Design Challenge is set to be launched by CIBSE and UKCIP at CIBSE\u2019s Build2Perform Live event on 21 November, at Olympia, London<\/h2>\n<p>The Green Infrastructure Design Challenge seeks to highlight the role of building level green infrastructure, such as green roofs, living walls, indoor farms and gardens in creating sustainable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/concrete-and-masonry-building-resilience-in-the-urban-environment\/35046\">urban environments<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This years\u2019 design challenge wants entrants to consider what constitutes a healthy, productive and sustainable urban environment from both a building performance perspective and as an improvement of surrounding public spaces. The design should be effective now and as the climate changes.<\/p>\n<p>Submissions must include design and operation solutions that enhance the urban environment, particularly those that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enhance the primary use of land and unlock additional benefits<\/li>\n<li>Improve air quality<\/li>\n<li>Reduce overheating risk<\/li>\n<li>Improve flood resilience<\/li>\n<li>Promote more sustainable transport, such a cycling and walking<\/li>\n<li>Take account of likely future shortages in public water supply.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Green Infrastructure challenge is open to individuals or teams including students, qualified practitioners, and researchers. Entrants can choose to work at any scale, from a single building and its surrounding space to larger, more formally linked spaces and developments. The scheme can be in any UK location.<\/p>\n<p>Submissions should be submitted on 2 x A0 posters. All submissions must contain an overarching green infrastructure vision for the identified area as well as detailed designs provided for at least one building (in large developments) or selected indoor spaces in single building proposals.\u00a0 Deadline for entries is 19 February 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The 2018 Green Infrastructure Design Challenge will be launched at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.build2perform.co.uk\/\">Build2Perform Live<\/a> on 21 November 2017 at 13.00-13.45. Speaking at the launch will be the 2017 Design Challenge winners along with Professor John Dover from Staffordshire University who will outline how plants can improve the human environment.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s challenge is supported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecobuild.co.uk\/\">Ecobuild<\/a>. All submitted designs will be showcased at Ecobuild 2018 at Excel, London, where the shortlisted teams will be expected to present their design in a three minute presentation to a judging panel at the event.
