{"id":37277,"date":"2017-12-13T14:36:51","date_gmt":"2017-12-13T14:36:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=37277"},"modified":"2017-12-13T14:36:51","modified_gmt":"2017-12-13T14:36:51","slug":"bim-expert-urges-clients-to-engage-with-bim-level-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/digital-construction-news\/bim-news\/bim-expert-urges-clients-to-engage-with-bim-level-2\/37277\/","title":{"rendered":"BIM expert urges clients to engage with BIM Level 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The managing director of Wynne Construction, Chris Wynne, has warned that clients will lose out financially unless they demand evidence that contractors are not only using BIM for modelling, but applying the full BIM level 2 process as well<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wynneconstruction.co.uk\/\">Wynne Construction<\/a> is Wales\u2019 only indigenous construction firm to have acquired full BIM Level 2 certification through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bre.co.uk\/\">BRE<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A lingering lack of awareness about BIM overall within some client companies, means that they may not realise they are losing out until it\u2019s too late, says Chris.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cBy appointing a contractor that only uses BIM for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/special-reports\/3d-modelling-ensures-quality\/31025\/\">3D modelling<\/a> and not maximising the full benefits of the process including delivery of the full <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/bim-news\/30326\/30326\/\">asset information<\/a> model (AIM), they are seeing a small element of the potential benefits that the BIM process can deliver.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe client is potentially missing out on the biggest benefits of BIM \u2013 significant cost savings on facilities management through the entire lifespan of the asset.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt tendering stage, they should be seeking evidence that companies can deliver a BIM Level 2 compliant project with the correct outputs at handover stage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wynne Construction chose back in 2013 to become an early adopter and begin the journey to attainment of full <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/bim-news\/accreditation-for-bim-certification\/33903\/\">BIM certification<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-37278 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/BIM-expert-urges-clients-to-engage-with-BIM-Level-2-2-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"BIM Level 2\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/BIM-expert-urges-clients-to-engage-with-BIM-Level-2-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/BIM-expert-urges-clients-to-engage-with-BIM-Level-2-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/BIM-expert-urges-clients-to-engage-with-BIM-Level-2-2-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/BIM-expert-urges-clients-to-engage-with-BIM-Level-2-2-100x67.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/BIM-expert-urges-clients-to-engage-with-BIM-Level-2-2-696x464.jpg 696w, https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/BIM-expert-urges-clients-to-engage-with-BIM-Level-2-2-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/BIM-expert-urges-clients-to-engage-with-BIM-Level-2-2-630x420.jpg 630w, https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/BIM-expert-urges-clients-to-engage-with-BIM-Level-2-2.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Now, the company, has just handed over its latest project:\u00a0 the \u00a310m Ysgol Cybi primary school scheme comprising refurbishment of a Grade 2 listed derelict former school, plus new build extension in Holyhead, built utilising a BIM level 2 compliant process, in collaboration with the in-house design team at Anglesey Council.<\/p>\n<p>Chris added:\u00a0 \u201cWe are also delivering a full suite of asset information embedded within the client\u2019s facilities management software to support the authority\u2019s asset operations and management.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot all contractors apply BIM properly, as a collaborative tool.\u00a0 It is necessary to deliver project and asset information, documentation and data electronically at design, construction and handover stages. We are delivering this on our Holyhead project to ensure full Level 2 compliance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn my opinion, many clients don\u2019t necessarily know you need to appoint a contractor that delivers BIM level 2.\u00a0 They are potentially losing out on all the benefits of this process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His views were echoed by Ben Curtis, BRE Global BIM scheme manager.<\/p>\n<p>Ben said: \u201cA lot of companies may claim in tenders that they are BIM level 2 ready, but there is still a misconception out there that BIM is just about using architectural software, when it is really about following a strict process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not just about having a software license;
