{"id":38537,"date":"2018-02-13T15:12:17","date_gmt":"2018-02-13T15:12:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=38537"},"modified":"2018-02-13T15:12:41","modified_gmt":"2018-02-13T15:12:41","slug":"bsria-supports-renewable-heat-incentive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/bsria-supports-renewable-heat-incentive\/38537\/","title":{"rendered":"BSRIA supports renewable heat incentive reform"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>BSRIA has announced its support of the \u201creformed and refocused scheme\u201d for the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) issued by the Government on 9 February following an industry-wide consultation<\/h3>\n<p>Such reforms will ensure:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a focus on long-term decarbonisation: promoting the deployment of the right technologies for the right uses, while ensuring the RHI contributes to both government\u2019s decarbonisation targets and to the UK\u2019s renewable energy target;<\/li>\n<li>offer better value for money and protect consumers: improving how costs are controlled, giving consumers more confidence in the performance of particular technologies and addressing possible loopholes in the scheme;<\/li>\n<li>support <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/bim-news\/innovation-sustainability-and-collaboration-for-the-supply-chain\/36147\/\">supply chain<\/a> growth and challenges the market to deliver: driving cost reductions and innovation to help build growing markets that provide quality to consumers and are sustainable without government support in future.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Consultation background<\/h3>\n<p>Consultation was sought on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/577024\/RHI_Reform_Government_response_FINAL.pdf\">government\u2019s proposed reforms<\/a> to the existing Domestic and Non-Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive schemes. It ran from 3 March to 27 April 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The RHI was introduced to support households, businesses, public bodies and charities in transitioning from conventional forms of heating to renewable alternatives. In November 2015, the government renewed its commitment to the transition to a low carbon economy by confirming a continued budget for the RHI.<\/p>\n<p>Socrates Christidis, Senior Market Intelligence Analyst, BSRIA\u2019s World Market Intelligence Division, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a raft of real changes to the RHI and BSRIA is broadly supportive of this reformed and refocused scheme. RHI will foster the renewable heat market and supply chain to assist the delivery of low carbon heating technologies. These reforms to the RHI will guarantee it focuses on long-term decarbonisation and offers better value for money for consumers \u2013 which is <em>win win<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe aim of the RHI is to incentivise the cost effective generation of renewable heat in order to contribute to meeting carbon budgets and generate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/encouraging-consumers-to-adopt-energy-efficient-behaviour\/35737\/\">renewable energy<\/a> to help meet the UK\u2019s 2020 renewable energy target. These are crucial strategic and policy issues which BSRIA endorses and works hard to achieve.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, the current market for renewable heat is a relatively small chunk of the heating market as a whole and these technologies are largely unable to compete on cost with conventional heating options.
