The Developer behind the new Edinburgh Marina has confirmed its commitment to protect and refurbish the historic Gunpowder Store at Granton Harbour, which forms an important element of the comprehensive Edinburgh Marina development plans<\/h2>\n

The 170 years old Gunpowder Store is listed on Scotland\u2019s Buildings at Risk Register and is currently undergoing redevelopment as part of the developer\u2019s wider vision for this unique \u00a3500m waterside quarter. Work has now commenced on the refurbishment.<\/p>\n

Originally one of four identical, symmetrically placed buildings, the Gunpowder Store is the only structure to remain on Middle Pier following its initial opening in 1842.\u00a0 Extensive repair work to the roof is currently taking place, with the entire refurbishment expected to be completed by July 2018.\u00a0 As the wider redevelopment progresses, the renovated Gunpowder Store will be brought back into commercial use for the first time in many years, initially as an office and showroom for the surrounding Edinburgh Marina development.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the refurbishment of the Gunpowder Store, developer Kevin Fawcett said: \u201cI am delighted that we are able to play a role in saving this important historic building and to bring it back into productive use. The building is of significant historical importance to the local and wider community and has been allowed to deteriorate for decades; its renovation is long overdue. Once the various Edinburgh Marina developments at Granton are complete our ambition is for the building to be adopted for use by the local community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Edinburgh Marina aims to create a new destination for Scotland\u2019s capital, bringing new life and vibrancy to a key area of Edinburgh\u2019s coastline. This distinctive development will comprise a wide range of high-end leisure and residential accommodation and facilities, including a luxury waterside 106 unit retirement living scheme, Living for Retirement\u00a9, adjacent to Edinburgh\u2019s first ever purpose-built luxury marina.<\/p>\n

The wider vision for the Edinburgh Marina development represents a truly unique opportunity for both Edinburgh and Scotland, to create a cross-generational lifestyle hub which combines state of the art facilities and a wide variety of housing tenures.<\/p>\n

Detailed planning consent<\/a> for the remaining elements of this exciting new quarter of Edinburgh are anticipated in the coming months with construction of the marina buildings and associated developments scheduled to begin in the second half of 2018.<\/p>\n
